An anonymous caregiver asked...
I have not worked and been on disability since 1996 and have Medicaid and Recently I was offered a part-time job in mental healthcare working from 10-12 hours a week. I am concerned about my Social Security benefits being affected. I receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI). I heard that if you make more than $980 and month or work for more than nine months in a five year period, my Social Security benefits will be affected and I will lose my first of the month pay regardless. And instead of having MQMB for my Medicaid, I will have to apply for just QMB and for the next six to eight months, $100 or so will be deducted a month until my premium is paid and I'm eligible for the QMB. Then when I qualify for this QMB, I will be reimbursed the money I put in for paying the premiums. My main concern is losing my Social Security benefits in any way because my medications I take are very expensive and I will lose the benefits of prescription coverage, eye exams, eye glasses and hearing aids. Your answers to my questions about the benefits, will decide my decision if I take this part-time job. I'm in distressed about this!! Please help!! Thank You.
