Namenda is used to treat Alzheimer's disease, or, the symptom of dementia (dementia being a mental impairment). It can be used to treat migraine headaches as it is used for preventing the migraines from beginning. It is also used to prevent other types of severe headache such as tension headache. When a physician or practitioner uses this drug for medical conditions other then Alzheimer's it is described as to being used for an off-label purpose. Namenda is a brand name of the chemical memantine hydrochloride that is manufactured by Forest Pharmaceuticals. It is an active NMDA receptor antagonist that is administered orally. Namenda is not yet available in a generic form, the first expected generic form is expected to be available in the year 2015.
