Can a person inherit uterine cancer?
Possibly. If you are concerned about inheriting uterine cancer from other women in your family, you may have reason to be, as uterine cancer (like many other cancers) tends to run in families. Like other cancers, though, heredity is just a risk factor – it doesn’t mean you will definitely inherit any disease.
Still, the risk is there, and statistically speaking, it’s higher if you have an immediate family member (like a mother or a sister) with uterine cancer. There is also a genetic mutation in a very small percentage of women that is linked to uterine and colon cancers called the Lynch Syndrome or hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer syndrome (HNPCC). This is something that a woman can inherit from her parents, but again, even having this mutation is only a risk, not a guarantee. From what I’ve read, inheriting uterine cancer is not the most common cause of the cancer.
