I am a caegivier for my husband who has vascular dementia and very severe emphysema. He is on 24/7 oxygen, 3 liters, and any exertion renders him breathless. I have renal failure and go to dialysis 3 times per week. I have to do all the shopping, bagging, in & out of the car. We both are over weight by 100 lbs. My husband was ill due to emphysema for 2 week in June, after getting home he fell 4 times in the bathroom, where it was a great struggle to get him up with paramedics being called the first time. He appeared to be sedated too much. I stopped all his medication until he recovered. Then restarted the medication. He is fine now, but I also became ill and became a non funtioning caregiver. It took me two weeks to finally get to my doctor and now I am well. It was a simple sinus infection. I want to know if any simple illness that healthy people can fight off and still function will cause me such severe illness again? Because of the renal failure I have to go to dialysis (I drive myself) I missed only one treatment in the two week period that I was ill. I do not have anyone to care for me. How do I keep myself well?
Thank you for an answer.
