Question
Some family members think we should put my mother with early-stage Alzheimer's in assistive care now, while she is more cognizant and adaptable. Others of us argue it's better for her to stay at home as long as possible (with assistance), in a familiar environment with a better quality of life. Advice?

It's often the issue of safety that brings a family together in deciding the big "when" question. If she's comfortable and secure in her home, it's understandable why some family members would be resistant to relocating her at that time. However, if she's wandering or otherwise jeopardizing her safety, everyone may come closer to agreeing that her home may not be the best place for her. Another possibility is to talk to your mother about it. Does she have a strong feeling one way or the other?
