An anonymous caregiver asked...
My elderly father, 86, keeps giving money to a grandaughter who claims she has health problems and can't get work. She lives with a guy who also doesn't work. My father lives totally on social security. He has a small savings and we are afraid she will some how get ahold of that also. I have DPA and also POD on all his bank accounts. I have talked to my Dad, the grandaughter, and her dad. The grandaughter has convinced my dad she can't find work and is not able to work because of her health. She has abused drugs in the past and we are fearful she is using the money he gives her to also buy drugs. Her dad says there is nothing he can do. This grandaughter is over 40. Is there some way we can take action against the grandaughter without using the law. We have considered having my dad declared incompetant, but he really isn't. He lives on his own and pretty much takes care of himself. we are totally frusterated with this whole situtation. She has been using her grandfather like this for a lot of years. It is now becoming very serious. She has been coming around every 4-5 days. Some months he gives her almost all of his social security check. I would really appreciate any opinions. Thank You
