An anonymous caregiver asked...
We have had ongoing complaints about the healthcare received in a residential home by my 83 yar old stepfathe who has Alzheimer and other health problems.
We have complained to the CQC and Social Services and asked for him to be moved, even though this might cause a deterioration in his Alzheimer. The Social Services Social Work assistant response was for us to discuss issues with the Home Manager.
This has been done verbally and in writing many times. We are promised improvements but nothing changes.
We were called at 7pm last night to be told my stepfather had again been seen by a hospital consultant where he was told he needed his foot amputated. He was alone without family support.
We have asked many times to be kept informed as this has happened previously, with no avail.
My husband had a meeting last Friday with the new Home Manager to be told we would be kept informed and that his health needs were being met at the Home with District Nurse input. Yet 5 days later he has returned to see a Consultant alone and be presented with the most dreadful news. (Surely he must have had the hospital appointment prior to the meeting?).
I am unsure what to do next.Should I complain again through CQW, Social Services, go to our MP or the local press or a solicitor.
This is in the context I had a brain tumor removed last Christmas and have yet another MRI on my brain tomorrow.
Kindest regards
L
