How do I protect my parents' home from Medicaid if my brother still lives there?
I am definatley not an expert on the matter and may not be giving your accurate information, however, I beleive I read that when you are looking to qualify for medicaid, and you need long term care, medicaid will stake a claim in the home, but there was a scenerio that if a disabled child is residing in the home, they can not. But I do beleive that child, even if it is an adult child, needs to be living in the home for a specific amount of time prior to the need of nursing home care, in order for Medicaid not to go after the home. I am assuming your brother is in fact disabled, becausue you mentioned SSI benefits. There is a section on this website for Medicaid planning re: long term care. It has a lot of info on this subject and should be helpful. Good luck!
