How dangerous is a broken hip?
Having a broken hip can be a serious condition. First, there is increased risk of the injury repeating itself after healing from the initial fracture. If the person is not fit for surgery, a tension system called traction may be used to let the hip heal naturally. There is risks involved in this, as it can lead to muscle deterioration and weakness, which in turn may lead to permanent immobility. It can also lead to blood clotting, which can in itself can be fatal. Bed sores, infections, and pneumonia are possible if the person is unable to move around for an extended time.
