An anonymous caregiver asked...
My 82 year old mother-in-law seems to be addicted to TV shopping networks & catalogs. She buys items from them several times a week, many of which are poorly made or simply useless. We have discussed this at length with her, and she often denies making the purchases. She does have a small amount of discretionary income, but this is out of hand. Do you have any suggestions?

If it is her money and she has it to spend and she is 82, why do you bother her with trivial things, she's not out using heavy artilarry or anything, people do what they are comfortable with and what gives them comfort and it sounds like she is lonely. Spend more quality time with her so her brain can wander elsewhere.
