Humira has not been proven to directly cause lupus. However, one rarely reported side effect of Humira, according to prescription drug resource and information website www.drugs.com, is the development of autoantibodies and a lupus-like syndrome. If you experience any lupus-like symptoms while taking Humira, consult your doctor immediately and discontinue your use of Humira. These symptoms include chest pain when taking a deep breath, hair loss, mouth sores, swollen lymph nodes, and skin rash. The skin rash associated with lupus is a rash over the cheeks and bridge of the nose, which gets worse under sunlight.
