Does a broken hip cause blood clots?
Blood clots, or more specifically, deep vein thrombosis can be caused by breakages or fractures in the hip. Deep vein thrombosis is clotting in the leg area - specifically the pelvis, lower leg and thighs. You will experience warmth, redness, pain, joint pain - especially in the foot, and swelling. Typically, anticoagulation medicine is given to the patient to thin the blood in the area.
