Hello,
My mom (87) has been in a nice assisted living home for about 2 years. They treat her very well and she has become comfortable there. Unfortunately she has neuropathy in her feet and hates to walk and no pools are available for walking (in a small South Dakota town). So, she fell a couple of days ago and tore skin on both knees and elbows. Her legs are swollen now and she is in the hospital. The doctor thinks she will be unlikely to go back to assisted living (residents are required to walk and more). She is forgetful, but able to carry on a good conversation, sees well, and doesn't want to go to a nursing home. Because she has significant incontinence (urinary & bowel). Most places will want her in full time nursing (her husband is in SD in a VA home). Can the doctor make her go to a nursing home? She is rapidly running out of money (as are we), and I am considering bringing her home to CA I can't bring her husband as he is even more disabled. Would I be able to assistance from Medicare to have day time care for her in my home? Thanks for your thoughts and comments. Linda
