Home care providers do not need special certification. Many home care agencies will hire caregivers who are certified as Certified Nurses Aides or Medical Assistants, but it is not required. See also:

If a client needs special care, a good home care agency will match the client with a caregiver at the agency who has those skills or will find a caregiver who has applicable experience and test and retrain them as needed to make sure they can fulfill the needs of the client. For example, Right at Home has a caregiver matching program that uses several compatibility dimensions including service needs, temperament, interests and more to find the very best fit for each client.

Once a match has been made, a supervisor and the caregiver will visit the client together. The supervisor will have the caregiver perform the tasks and coach the caregiver as needed. Then, over the next few weeks, the company will make supervisory visits to make sure the tasks are being completed satisfactorily.
