I assume that she does not have a laptop -- most seniors do not and there would be no need for one. So in terms of an easy to understand computer for seniors like your mother-in-law needs, my suggestion is to buy an inexpensive Windows machine, use the same keyboard and mouse that she already uses, and then consider subscribing to an inexpensive software package that enables computers to be easy to use, for example, InTouchLink or PointerWare. These include large graphical access to the Internet, e-mail, photo sharing, and simple calendar that could be preset with birthdays or reminders.

We had been using a computer called 'Go', which was less confusing than a store-bought computer but still not very easy. It also required a monthly fee that didn't seem to get us anything for the money.

I have trouble using the mouse most days and just found a touch screen computer that's perfect for me. It's called the Wow Computer and comes from First Street. I've bought several things from them and been happy so we bought the Wow and really like it so far. It has a mouse and keyboard that I almost never use becasue everything works by just touching the big screen. It is very simple and lets me read newspapers, play some simple games and email my friends with computers. We found it at http://www.firststreetonline.com and then put Wow into the search box at the top of the page.

It will not do everything a store-bought computer will do. If you are an advanced computer user, this probably is not for you. If you are new to computers or afraid you will not be able to figure out how to use one, this is perfect. They made it simple enough for anybody to use.

That computer is from a company called Telekin (http://www.slashgear.com/telekin-pc-alternative-unveiled-at-ces-2011-04122843/) and was launched at CES 2011. FirstSTREET has given it the name WOW.

Another company that has emerged is VitalLink (http://www.vitallink.net/faq) for those who already have a computer and want software that makes that computer easier to use.
