Jennifer Serafin, N.P. is a registered nurse and geriatric nurse practitioner at the Jewish Homes for the Aged in San Francisco.

It's OK to bathe in warm water if the blood clot is internal (in the inside of the leg -- this is called a deep vein thrombosis) and the doctor has given the OK to getting out of bed and doing activities. If the blood clot is on the outside skin (like a wound), I'd ask the doctor before I bathed it in warm water. This could dislodge the clot and cause bleeding.
