What's the typical broken hip recovery time? My 86 year old father fell and broke his left hip 2 1/2 weeks ago. Six years ago, he had a stroke that affected his left side. Although he overcame most effects of the stroke, he was left with weakness and walked with a cane.

Now, he is in a nursing home for rehab after having a hip replacement. My question is this: What can I expect from him with regard to his rehab and being able to come home? It seems like he has gotten weaker and more frail since he has been in the nursing home - going on two weeks. My mother, who is 85, wants to talk to the doctor in charge of his care at the nursing home. How do I get in touch with the doctor? It seems like nowadays, you can't get through the first phone call of the receptionist at a doctor's office. I take my mother over to the home every afternoon. The aides at the home are nice, but really don't seem to care whether my father gets out of bed or not. I worked as an aide at a nursing home 30+ years ago, but things have changed, and the patients' care doesn't seem as good as it used to be.
