Can you be born with kidney cancer?
Yes, you can be born with kidney cancer in very rare cases. There is a rare cancer called Wilms’ Tumor, or nephroblastoma, that appears in young children and infants. In some cases it is found immediately after birth, although usually it is found when a child is between three and four years of age. It is believed that the cancer starts when the baby is still in the womb and the cells that should form the kidneys do not do their work properly. There is also a genetic factor for Wilms’ Tumor, which can contribute to the chances of your child getting kidney cancer.
