How many people die from bladder cancer each year?
Per the National Cancer Institute, estimated new cases of bladder cancer in the United States in 2010 will be 70,530. Estimated deaths from bladder cancer over the same year will be 14,680. Bladder cancer is responsible for 7% of all newly-diagnosed cancer in men; it accounts for 2% of newly-diagnosed cancer in women. The most common type of bladder cancer is transitional cell carcinoma, representing over 90% of all bladder cancer in the United States. The second most common cause of bladder cancer is squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder. Another type of bladder cancer is adenocarcinoma. Most patients affected by bladder cancer are over 70 years old.
