Can benign thyroid nodules turn into cancer?

If you are diagnosed with benign thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer is still on your mind, rest easy. From what I've been told, benign nodules do not turn into malignant ones over time. In fact, you won't need any treatment at all for these growths. The truth is 1 in 12 women and 1 in 40 men develop benign thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer is only an issue in 10 percent of these people. I know all this because they found a nodule on my dad. I was really scared. But it turned out to be nothing. Hope that makes you feel better.
