Q
Are vitamins good for emphysema?
Answers
A
Emphysema is a lung disease primarily found in smokers, and has been recently linked by researchers at Kansas State University to be related to a deficiency in Vitamin E and C. Whilst taking these vitamins can help to reduce the symptoms, the biggest way to reduce emphysema if you are a smoker is to stop. Taking vitamin supplements only help to balance the toxins that enter the body. Experts believe that a daily dose of 100 to 200 International Units of Vitamin E helps to promote proper lung function, and that a helping of around 150mg of vitamin C works as an antioxidant. Neither vitamin works more effectively in bigger doses, and doctors have recommended these levels as being the upper limits of effectiveness.
