My mother of 82 has been diagnosed with alzheimers for a few...
June, I feel really bad about my mother too. I can tell you though that it would be a 24/7 job. My mother is up at night and if she wasn't in a home she wouldn't be safe because she has tried to leave the home she is in. She was going to look for her car. There is just know way that one person could provide the care that they need. You would be totally exhausted without around the clock help. I feel like my mother is starting to settle into the new home and she even says that she likes it there and that the people are good to her. She occassionaly does say that she could live by herself and then she will change her mind and say that she couldn't because she is afraid to stay alone. It is heart breaking but I feel like at least they have someone watching after them and their meds. are given to them when it is time each day and they are getting three meals a day, bathed and have clean clothes each day. I really don't know the answer myself because even though I just couldn't care for her properly at home I feel like I should. I just know that it the later stages of the disease there would be no way to care for her because they are bedridden and have to be fed, bathed etc.. It's a very hard disease to deal with. I pray for you to find comfort in what ever you decide to do. I feel really bad about my mother too. I can tell you though that it would be a 24/7 job.
