My 74 year old Dad has Alzheimer's. He was being cared for in his apartment by my brother, me, a health aid and his girlfriend -- all on a rotating basis. Recently, we moved him to an assisted living dementia unit where he declined in one week to not being able to walk or feed himself very well. We took him to the Emergency Room where it was determined that he had been over medicated. He is still in the hospital and doctor's are checking him for "cortical blindness." The PRN that was given at the placement is now out of his system, but is in bad shape. His vision has always been a very pronounced symptom of his Alzheimer's and seems worse. In hindsight we now realize that we should have prepared him for the move better but were ill advised. Now the question, Will he regain some of his skills if we bring him back to his apartment? I plan on taking family medical leave to help in his care and help orient him back to a rotating team of care. All he wants to do is go home to the same apartment where is girlfriend lives (in an apartment upstairs).
Thank you for your thoughts.
