What actors have died of bone cancer?
There’s always a lot of publicity when celebs die, but it seems that there aren’t many actors with bone cancer, or at least ones who have died of it. That’s because bone cancer is pretty rare. I did a little Internet digging, and rumor has it that Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson’s TV sidekick, died of bone cancer in 2009, but that was never really confirmed. McMahon was 86 and had other health problems.
Another famous sidekick, Vivian Vance, died of bone cancer in 1979 at age 70. She was Lucille Ball’s best friend Ethel on “I Love Lucy.” Actor John Cazale, who played older brother Fredo in “The Godfather,” also had bone cancer. I remember thinking this was really sad because Cazale was engaged to Meryl Streep when he died at age 42 in 1978. Other than that, I haven’t learned of any other actors with bone cancer.
