I am actually responding for myself (I am the stroke survivor). Many times I find myself in a discussion and feel like people are intentionally ignoring my comments (I usually ask my wife later if I am jus speaking to quietly) My in-laws are the "loud" family ( every discussion even casual ones seem to be a shouting match). My father-in-law does not feel it has been at "good" dinner unless there is at least one good argument so he spends his dinner trying to provoke one. (real fun guy to be around). I feel I have to yell to be heard, and I am not comfortable doing that.
