Hi, I am a caregiver since the 80's Originally I cared for other people's parents as a LPN for 6 years, CNA for 12 years. I switched to child care to change the pace at a Day Care, then cared for our grandchildren as they came along. What a blessing they have been. Expecially since I am step-Mom and haven't any biological children.
My father was diagnosed with leukemia in 2001, and passed in 2002, they said it was one of the 2%"s type very rare and with no help. I cared for Dad and as tme passed Mom's heart was so broken she began to have strokes, A-Fib developed, another syncope syndrome,(?) They call it a syndrome when they really don't know what or why, right? 2007 broken hip, 2008 broken back Osteoporosis is a bad thing. ( Mom took Premarin for years.) Today I care for Mom on a daily basis, we had to move in in 2003. A total system shock having to move all of our belongings into this home meanwhile this home was all ready so full of everything under the sun. Mom shopped for months ahead of time. Apparently was having trouble with her memory for a while. The home showed it. Bless her heart. She never asked for help. and did not really want it then. or now, but she is so sweet and kind to all. Mom thanks me nightly and tells me she loves me. something she rarely did when I was a child.
We are managing quite well now. Of course there are still boxes of belongings I have yet to be rid of, I simply can't bring myself to "disolve" their lives like that. It's not hurting anything to keep some of the things. for what I don't know. Mom is doing well, my husbands Mom had a near death experience in Dec '08 and was not able to live alone any more, so because she has COPD and had to quit smoking, ours was the only home in the family smokefree. She has lived with us since. And her dog, Dodge, Dachshound (handicapped) with a potty problem. I have 2 dogs, SuzieBelle (7 yrs old), our Bassett Hound, and Buster( 5 yrs) our yellow lab. Also an outdoor cat, Tedi (13yrs) My Mom is now 86 years young my mother-in-law is 73 , we are in our first years of 50's Just one big happy family! Prayers are very opened-armed accepted.
Mom has developed Type II Diabeties, Mild Parkinsons, polymyalgia, orthostatic hypertensive episodes, vasovegal sensitivity. and there is a medication for everything. These are every day things I deal with. Besides managing my own chronic pain. Which by the Grace of God is not getting any worse any more.
I love to garden, go to the beach, ride on the back of my husband's Harley, and play with the dogs and the grandchildren. I turned my life and my will over to the care of God in 1994 and we are doing okay together day by day. i'll probably have to go over this again. Thanks for listening.
