I was sick a lot as a child; my mom took really good care of me. I made up my mind that when she got old and needed help I'd be there for her. When my dad passed away suddenly in 1991, my mom was determined to live independently: she didn't want to accept help until she started getting sick a lot, and fell through her deck (it was rotten by then). My husband and I have been here 10 years now, and mom is doing well: she had a bad heart attack in 2005, but quick response from paramedics and a stent inserted at the hospital saved her life. I've been a teacher among other things, but am looking to spend my own golden years working with people in business whose outlook is cooperation, trust, faith, and abundance. We've missed a lot of that being isolated as caregivers here, but that is the legacy I want to leave the world.
