Hello, I am here to try to find some decent help and advise as to the care of my 87 year old mother. Some of what I have to say is going to sound down right cruel, but I really don't know how to sugar coat it.I do love my mother but I sure the hell never signed on for this. Most days I am pretty much at the end of my rope! First of all I am a 44 yo M and yes m stands for male... I am so sick of these fluffy sites that are geared towards women. I need something more substantial than prayers and sympathy. My mother moved into my home after she retired in 1999, at the time it was an ideal situation as I was working out of state. Since that time I have had to return home as her health has deteriorated. To make a long story short what I have returned to is a kitchen almost destroyed by fire walls and ceilings that are now yellow due to cigarette smoke and the rancid smell of urine though out most of the house. My time is consumed by either cleaning up after her, making her cigarettes, and catering to her every whim. She will not, nor would i force her into a home, when I contacted the local Council on Aging they told me they were out of money. I did try to trade a woman room and board for some help with her, but what I got was her laundry done once a week and $1400 stolen from me! My health is now on the decline now, to the point that I would not pass a physical to return to work and my unemployment benefits will expire soon. Then I have no idea what will happen.
