Bio
I'm the Director of Software Architecture [wikipedia.org] here at Caring.com. I was the first employee they hired in May 2007. I've had the great pleasure of helping build this site from its inception.
Caring.com is special to me because my father is terminally ill with a Mitochondrial Disorder [epilepsy.com]. Since 1991, my family has been living as care-givers. His current state is manageable, but we don't know when his disease may progress to the point where my mother can no longer provide for his care by herself.
My father-in-law has battled neck cancer twice now and it is currently in remission. He's been left with a slight speech impediment and has difficulty eating.
Last year, my widower grandmother passed away on her 90th birthday. She was a tenacious lady and I saw the struggles that her prolonged care-giving needs placed on her six children. I wish Caring.com had been available several years ago, because there was some very simple estate planning steps that could have been taken to avoid much stress and strife.
As you can see, I'm no stranger to care-giving. I'm here to help you by helping building this great website and I hope there's some wisdom I can offer from my 17 years of caregiving experience (yes that's more than 50% of my life) in our groups and Q&A.
