I am a blogger and caregiver.
I am currently the sole caregiver for my mother; she suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
Prior to moving to Delray Beach, Florida to take care of my mother I was CEO of a small software development and marketing company.
For twenty years before that I worked on Wall Street and in private investing.
I am currently the editor of the Alzheimer's Reading Room. The Alzheimer's Reading Room is becoming the number one stop on the Internet for caregivers, families and others touched by Alzheimer's and dementia. I am now broadening the scope of Alzheimers Reading Room to include baby boomers.
Articles from the Alzheimers Reading Room are starting to show up on major media sites like Reuters.
I learned a lot in the last five years while taking care of my mother. We try and investigate every alternative possible. We share all this information and our successes on the Alzheimer's Reading Room. I want and need to share our experiences with others just like us.
You could say I am a happy caregiver. Don't be me wrong, it is trying and difficult. Caring brings me a feeling of accomplishment. The simple fact that my mother is home rather then in a "facility" is what keeps me going. This was my number one goal when I started. Soon it will be five years.
I have lots of advice to offer but the most important thing I learned is "I am not alone". I remind myself of this often. I want to thank all those wonderful people who helped me come to this realization. I believe this is the most important hurdle a caregiver must overcome to be successful.
