My mom is getting good care at KMH (Kansas Masonic Home). It is a beautiful place and they have very pretty grounds. The staff is friendly. They have beautiful gardens and a big hall area where they have movies to play. The residents all seem to like that well. They do activities, too. Of course, they've all been limited with COVID on what they can and can't do, but I think they're all getting to start to do more things now. They have bingo, color, crossword puzzles, word search, and sometimes they just go around and water the plants to get some exercise. They help them decorate for holidays like they just bring things and let the residents help hang them up and things like that.

The facility is nice and clean. But, the grounds need some maintenance. Promised a dog park but it still has not happened. The staff is caring, but the mgmt is not good. There are not very many activities, usually maybe 1 on Saturdays. There are not any outings outside of the facility. There is a pool but it has no water. You have to be in constant contact with the nurses to be sure care is handled correctly. The food used to be great but has been of poor quality since the end of May. They need to see about having a scratch kitchen and offer healthier dining options. The mgmt says they are working on getting the kitchen straightened out. It is a nice facility but needs more nursing staff.

The front line staff at KMH are generally very kind and caring people. They work hard to make sure residents are comfortable and happy. I had many positive interactions with staff members. The administration, however, does not care at all about the residents. They have numerous state violations for failure to chart episodes of care and if you question an action such as a wound dressing change, they have no chart notes to back up their actions/claims and they place the blame on the resident if accounts differ. When I was out of town, my mother became suddenly immobile but no one on the nursing staff noticed that she was sitting in her own filth for several days. Once I found out and requested assistance, it took another 2 days to receive bathing assistance. My father was struggling to care for my mother in assisted living and initiated a move for both of them to memory care for additional support. Instead of working with him to get him the support he needed and asked for, they determined that she wasn’t safe to live with him at all. They conducted an “investigation” of alleged physical and verbal abuse without speaking to either of my parents. After determining that they could not live together, they wanted us to pay for 2 separate rooms. They advertise activities for residents but they can’t keep an activities director and most advertised activities do not take place. I would not recommend KMH for your loved one. They cut too many corners and admins are not focused on the care of the residents.

I absolutely adore all the events that the community puts on. One of the events I look forward to every year is their Christmas event. they have so many festive trees and it gives me something to do. I rarely visit with my family but this event makes me remember the times we would all go look at Christmas lights. Please continue to provide events like this, it has become something I look forward to every year. The staff really makes the community stand out in my mind. Always friendly. Always have smiles on their faces. Most communities I have visited in the past make me sad but this one really shines.

When I went to visit the community as I am looking for a place for my parents to spend the rest of their lives I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly, the room we toured in assisted living was more than we expected, and my parents were happy with the food. There is a chance this will become the place we move my parents into.

We looked at the independent living part of KMH (Kansas Masonic Home). We talked to some of the residents. I would not call their food super, but it was good. The personnel were nice. The place was not as new, but the rooms that they did show us were nice.
