I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our parents moved to Oakleaf Village in May of 2015. Mom enjoyed living there almost 4 years, and Dad over 5 years. He passed away in July 2020 of natural causes. We cannot say enough about this incredible Community. Our folks selected Oakleaf having visited friends there and noticing the vibrant Community. It's a unique, caring place filled with amazing staff. They took such great care of our folks. Even during the difficult days of the COVIC-19 pandemic when our Dad was declining (he did not have COVID), they treated our Dad (and us!) with the utmost kindness and respect. Our parents chose very well when they chose Oakleaf Village of Sylvania. Our entire family will forever be grateful for the excellent care, genuine compassion, and true friendship (lots of fun activities!) found at Oakleaf Village. I highly recommend this facility to you. I encourage you to visit and you will see the difference first-hand.

I visited this facility

We're leaning towards The Grove at Oakleaf Village for my mother. We liked the appearance, they have 4 separate levels depending on the level of dementia, that they call neighborhoods, which are 10 or 12 units, or little apartments in each neighborhood. We liked that. We were able to see the one level, where the residents could still communicate over lunch, and a woman commented that the food was very good. The other thing we liked was the admissions person said that they pay their staff well and with good benefits, so they had less turnovers. They don't tend to use contract employees, temporary employees, so there's continuity of care. They have craft type things, they bring in people for entertainment, they try to engage them in things to stimulate their memory. They also have chair side exercises. The dining area looked contemporary with one big table with 10 or 12 people around it, they have 3 meals a day, and unlimited snacks and beverages.

The staff at Oakleaf Village of Toledo so far has been wonderful. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that this place is ridiculously expensive. My father is at their assisted living. They have a happy hour and he enjoyed that. They also have an exercise program every day, a walking club, speakers and musicians come in. So they have quite a bit going on, it's just a matter of my father liking them. The staff has been great. In terms of value for the money, compared to other places this one is great. Because even when they say you have to self-pay for 2 years before medicaid, half of the other places needed half the money, so this place is within reason. But for $5,400 a month you'd think they'd pay for garbage bags and certain things.

We visited the Grove. It's a friendly, very nice, and small community. The rooms are modern, they provide meals, and they offer all kinds of entertainment. Our friend's father lives there and he seems well cared for.

We chose The Grove at Oakleaf Village because it is a beautiful, brand-new facility designed by a company in Ohio that does a lot of research to create a memory care facility with the right floor plan and operational organization that works the best for my mother. We just moved my mom there last week, and so far, so good. The food is excellent. They have state-of-the-art amenities. They have everything, including a beautiful full kitchen, indoor sun rooms, outdoor patios, wide hallways where everything is brand new, waterfalls, and a fireplace in the lobby. They have programs for the dementia patients to be involved in mid-morning and mid-afternoon, like eating together for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I visited this facility

I have been to Oakleaf Village because I've got several friends who live there, so that is one plus. It is a very nice facility, it is well-maintained, and they have lots of activities. The staff is very friendly, and they seem very competent. The residents seem happy and well-cared for. My friends are very happy there; I would not be. I would not want that little space at this point. If I was alone, I might consider Oakleaf.

The facility is very pleasant, the people are wonderful and very caring. The apartments are very nice and quite comfortable. While the care is above average, the food is below average. While I am aware that there is no dietician or chef, the food could be prepared better and the selection should be geared more for seniors. Raw potatoes, pies not thawed, food served cold instead of hot, not much care or thought goes into the meals. For the money that is charged, this is pitiful.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We've been to a couple of places where no one was in the lobby or in the lounge, but here in Oakleaf Village a lot of people were interacting, and it is not something I crave, but to me there is a difference in feel, and the apartments I looked at were fine. The food here is terrible. They could find someone who knows what he or she is doing to be in charge of the kitchen and the meals.

When she got older my grandmother moved into Oakleaf Village in Sylvania Ohio. Its a very interesting place, different from any nursing homes I had visited and therefor not what I expected. The facility has very nice one bedroom apartments complete with a small kitchen, handicap bathrooms, a fair size bedroom and nice living room. Residents may also request a small garden plot.I expected a depressing place with elderly people just sitting around but this place was the exact opposite. Just walking in the front door the place was buzzing with activity and the main lobby was welcoming with books, pet fish and birds. There was always something going on, I often wanted to visit just to join in on the activities. I attended picnics. There was a fair complete with petting zoo for grandchildren once, a Daytona 500 party, card games, music, singing. I could just keep going on.My grandmother even said that she was afraid to move there but once she got there she found it great that she could walk down the hall and visit with new friends. I joined her for dinner a few times and met those friends, the staff were kind to her and me all the time and there for her if she needed anything day or night. With an adjusting pay scale I've recommended them to anyone I could and was able to help a friend find a place for his great aunt when he was feeling like giving up.I credit Oakleaf Village with adding extra years to my grandmother's life and making those years fun and exciting for her.
