Not the place to choose. Problems have been numerous. Miscommunications abound. Understaffed for years. Staff turnover steady, predictable even. Vital patient issues have been ignored. The more one visits, the more one will see.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I went to Consulate Health Care of Tallahassee for rehab. A section of it is for nursing home, and another section is for rehab. The most exciting thing when I first got there was the fact that the bed goes up and down so I can get to my wheelchair. That was really good. I felt like they were understaffed and overworked. It wasn't too bad, and part of it was that I could do some things for myself. It also depends on which aide happens to have your home that week. They were sometimes pushed to their limit because there are other residents that needs to be up and dressed early for their appointments. Sometimes you'd have to wait for a long time for an aide because they're understaffed. At the beginning of the month the meals were great, but at the end of the month they were not so great. It was like they're filling in with leftovers until the money comes in again. I participated in some of their trivia activities, bingo, and I thought their therapists were absolutely wonderful. I was really impressed with all of them and that within two days I was out of bed and in my wheelchair, going to therapy every day. I thought it was an attractive community.

My step dad was brought to this place and he came in with mobility and apparently they was not getting him out of bed he contracted in the knees the little time he was there, he developed something in his mouth while there and all his belongings was not returned and still missing that had his personal information. Me being trained in nursing and seeing when they got a talking mobilized man then from there down spiral no more talking like normal and contracted I would refer a dead dog here because they do not do their job n it's no way he should have been contracted period.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I live out of state. When I called Consulate Saturday morning about 7:00 am. I called to speak to my relative. First of all, the operator did not identify herself, she was rude, told me that they are busy, also she asked me was my relative at that facility, I waited on the phone for over ten minutes waiting for response from operator. When she finally answered, She said is my relative there at Consulate. I heard her speaking to another person over the phone, while I was waiting for about a few seconds, then she said my relative must be on the other side. I tried to ask her her name, then I said I would like to speak to Nursing Supervisor. As I type this review, I am still holding on the phone., waiting for Nursing Supervisor. All calls should be monitored so that, communication, politeness, truthfulness should be promoted as well as training promoted. It is over 45 minutes. I am still waiting for Nursing Supervisor to pick up phone. NO RESPONSE, yet. Maybe the operator just put me on hold because, I asked for Nursing Supervisor. MORE TRAINING IS DEFINITELY NEEDED!!! No I will not suggest this a place for your loved ones!!!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I find Consulate just fine. My husband is totally bedridden. He's terminal, and he does not get out of his bed at all. I like the care that my husband is having most of the time. Everybody is very nice. They need to improve on the food though. It is not very good. It is awful. However, I will recommend them to others.

have a relative there and have seen injuries go unnoticed and not reported until it got bad. Food is overcooked. Patients sit around in one room and watch TV majority of the time. High turn over of staff.

Patient has received poor, rude to mean verbal treatment, (to family members as well), uncaring, attention by many members of healthcare staff. Staff takes so long to respond to aid in assistance to toileting, that accidents often occur. When this occurs, there are many times patient was treated rudely, told they should have gotten up and gone. Patient HAS to have assistance. Not cleaned up good, leaving waste on patient. Poor hygiene of patient. Excessively long time of response when call in need of a nurse. There are times no response at all. Falls have not been treated appropriately. Much more has happened with patient. Problems have been reported. Nothing changes! Yes, there are a few who are kind and treat with dignity and proper attention. Weight loss of 25 pounds in 6 weeks. Communication has consistently been terrible with patient and family. Messages left for Medical health provider most of the time goes unanswered. Not informed of condition that developed while in Consulate HealthCare.

I visited this facility

My clients are very strict when looking for certain things within a nursing home and the main things they pointed out for me to research on...Consulate failed. The atmosphere is pleasant, staff respectful, but they had 20 deficiencies within their last 2 state visits. This nursing home is below the state standards and my client refused to go here even though it seemed to be such a nice place.

I visited this facility

I did an internship at this facility after completing my CNA training. My over all impression was that they were severely understaffed and I witnessed some things I found disturbing. The worst thing was helping a woman / patient who apparently had scabies. There was no posted notice on her door so interns or helpers would be aware. A full time employee happened to mention it to me in passing after I had already helped bathe her. The patient and her room mate were continually scratching and there skin showed injury from that. Plus I felt that the majority of the time patients were idle in front of a television. One elderly gentleman in a wheelchair managed to 'escape' down an outside ramp while it was raining because the door safety mechanism was broken. I wouldn't put my own relative there and I certainly wouldn't want to work there. All that being said, I want to stress that the staff did seem caring and kind but definitely overwhelmed. Also, the food was better than average for that type of facility in my opinion.
