I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law is a resident at this facility. As of June 2021 it went under an ownership change and ever since it has gotten better and better each month. They have a new Dietary Team and the food is so much better. The staff are more responsive and easier to communicate with. The Activities program is very involved and the Physical Therapy team is one of the best I've seen. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a place for themselves or their loved ones.

I visited this facility

We're looking to move my father-in-law to The Oaks at Lakewood. It was clean and had no odors of any kind, it was well taken care of and that's important. The staff members were polite. I was sitting there for me because I couldn't walk around the whole place. While I was sitting there, everybody was leaving for the evening and said, "Hi, how are you doing?" They made sure I was acknowledged and I wasn't even there to stay myself. Everybody was so polite. Their menu looks really good and it looks like they have a lot of activities planned for them all the time, to keep them busy. The room we saw was nice. My father-in-law will most likely have a roommate, which is good because he will have somebody to talk to all the time. And they were clean so we like that. Nothing seems damaged or not fixed, everything's nice to look at.

This is probably one of the worst facilities in all of Washington state and I would steer clear if you can. My mother is currently staying here and she's getting the absolute worst treatment you could imagine. They do not bathe her, they don't feed her edible food, they don't get her out of bed to do physical therapy, they don't change her brief fast enough so she has diaper rash and she has played with her own feces because she sat there for hours and hours without being changed. This place should be condemned and immediately shut down. The staff do not care, they sit around one nurse's station and just laugh and talk. I've even had employees there be extremely rude to me for no reason, hang up on me over the phone, deny me access to my family member, yell at me, threaten me and lie to my face. If I could give zero Stars I absolutely would and I am fearful for any person that has to stay in this facility because I know for a fact they are not getting proper treatment. My family and I have already filed complaints with the state and if we need to we will take legal action because it is seriously that bad.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend stayed at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. It was where the hospital put her, but I would not suggest it to anybody. They were understaffed, and my friend had to go back to the hospital because she had a yeast infection from laying in her own feces. Each CNA had 16 patients to take care of, and most of them were in wheelchair and/or bedridden. So an hour after everybody ate, everybody had to go to the bathroom at the same time, and you could not possibly take care everybody at one time. I was orginally told and given a piece of paper what time classes with PT and OT will be given: One was at 9:00 and one was at 11:00 Monday through Friday, then one of them will be Saturday, and one of them will be Sunday, but those were not adhered to. There was no scheduling. The time management was extremely poor. A lot of the residents were not happy. The food was very bland, but my friend was on a renal diet. When I commented on the fact that she should be on a renal diet, they had things on there that generally diabetics do not eat, but the fact that there was a note that came on every meal tray from the doctor that says she should not have potatoes, tomatoes, melons, and seven other things, but those did not matter. They paid no attention whatsover to that. When I brought that up, what they did to correct that was to take the word “renal” off of it and made it “heart healthy” menu, which does not satisfy a renal diet. I was extremely displeased with this place. I would say that my friend had good therapy, and those people worked with her. When the CNAs had time to get to her and clean her up, they were very pleasant and happy to help her, but there weren’t enough of them.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My wife has lived at Kindred for over two years and, while the facility is showing its age the people are fantastic. The care staff has been pro active in dealing with issues that have cropped up from time to time and, as my wife's situation has become more complex they have helped me to deal more effectively. I highly recommend this facility whether for yourself or for a loved one.

I am a friend or relative of resident

What a wonderful facility staffed with knowledgeable, caring, supportive staff. My Mom is in under an intensive Occupational and Physical Therapy program after experiencing a major health issue. I have found the administrative staff to be most helpful, the receptionist, Venus, a shear delight and each person, as a part of the care team, working with my Mother to be extremely supportive, caring, compassionate with a high level of skill brought to their individual occupations. The facility itself is clean and maintained very well. There is a lovely dining room where one can join their loved ones for meals, activities to keep residents attitudes upbeat and where they can choose to be as busy and active as they wish. I give Kindred Care a Five Star rating!
