The laurels is the best. My aunt has been going there for 5 years and they treat her with the absolute best service. the facility is always clean. The workers are very nice and respectful

Other

I recently visited this nursing home and was thoroughly impressed by its cleanliness, comfort, and festive decorations. The atmosphere was welcoming, and it was heartwarming to see the patients engaged in enjoyable activities. The staff, who are very friendly, put great effort into ensuring there are plenty of options to keep the patients occupied and entertained. Overall, it's a wonderful environment for residents to thrive in.

My dad was there for rehab after neck and back injuries. The staff was friendly and helpful. Pt was awesome in giving him the help he needed to walk again. He was there for 42 days and went home walking on his own with no devices.

My father was here for rehab after a spinal cord injury. The staff was amazing. From nursing to physical therapy they were some of the best I’ve seen/had to deal with.

I would not give this place half a star if I could. My mother broke her hip on 09/16/22 and had surgery on 09/19/22. On 09/22/22 she was placed in The Laurels for rehab. The place does not have enough aides or nurses to cover their patients. One night I called to speak with her nurse and was told she was the only nurse on duty for my mom's entire untit. On 10/16/22 I received a call stating my mother had COVID. My mom called me on 10/17/22 complaining that her legs were swollen and very painful. My mom is a retired nurse, so she knows medical issues. I was told on 10/18/22 that they had ordered a Lasik for her. She called on 10/19/22 and 10/20/22 crying stating her legs were so swollen that water was seeping out of them and her bed was soaked. She asked the nurse for help and was ignored. Each day I talked to a nurse I was told her legs for fine. Finally on 10/20//22 I called over and had her moved to our local hospital. The ER doctor came out and told me she has fluid in both lungs and her legs were swollen up to her groin and she was in possible congestive heart failure. She has never had CHF before her stay in the Laurels. She was admitted to our local hospital. They put her on antibiotics and IV Lasik. Today when I saw her, she said she saw her toes for the first times in days. She is so much better. she also informed me that the doctor at The Laurels (who never saw her) only ordered 1 Lasik pill per day. I had it out with the administrator but that was a waste of breath. She kept telling me it was my opinion, and no other family has ever called and complained. She still cannot walk as of this post but we hoping to get her admitted to the skilled care floor at our hospital. I would never recommend The Laurels to anyone. They never returned my calls when I called to file complaints. And no one ever answers the phone and when they do it is a patient! My mom also told me the overnight aides were very mean to her every time she asked for assistance to go to the bathroom overnight. One day I walked in, and she was in someone else's clothes.

Staffing is sub-par. Fortunately, my dad is retired and was able to care for my mother during her stay. If you’re expecting someone to actually take care of your loved one, don’t count on it. My mother has an ostomy which leaked. She called for help twice, staff finally came 4 hours later to change her appliance and clean her and the bed. She was there for PT and wound care. So you can imagine what happens to wounds that are soaked in feces for 4 hours. This happened more than once. My mom is unable to walk so she can’t clean it herself. On a positive note, the PT girls were wonderful. Staffing is an issue across the country and the laurels is definitely feeling the impact. Very scary place. My dad finally made the decision to take her out of there and bring her home. They had days to prepare her discharge instructions as the ambulette didn’t come until the afternoon. We never received discharge instructions. We were loading my mom onto tge ambulette when the RN ran after my dad with a stack of papers to sign. Not at all mentioning what to expect. The facilities are pretty and seems clean.

In the words of my father the day before he died, “This is a terrible place”. He was admitted for rehab following hip surgery. His surgeon was adament in communicating the importance of getting out of bed and walking following surgery. He was up and walking at the hospital within 10 hours after surgery and doing so well he was released to rehab a day earlier than planned. I found him slumped over in a chair with no access to a call button the day after he transferred to The Laurels. After I complained he was put in bed and left there for three days with a diaper placed over a catheter. On the fourth day he developed pulmonary embolisms which led to the heart attack that caused his death. The level of callousness and lack of appropriate care was astounding.

Regrettably the Laurels has the appearance of being a clean and well maintained facility. Unfortunately first impressions can be very deceiving. My mother was in the care of the Laurels due to Alzheimer’s disease . The care she received was substandard. She fell and broke her hip, due to negligence, while in their care. The facility was severely understaffed on weekends. I had countless calls asking me to come to the facility and speak to my mother when she was upset. (Never mind that her private pay bill was $6,000 per month! Frankly don’t walk away from the Laurels. Run. The staff was indifferent. Repeatedly, at least once per week I asked that my mother be given her sweater since she was consistently cold. I was ignored and she suffered. Care meetings were a complete waste of time. Questions and requests were literally ignored. Repeatedly I asked the social director to please include my mother in activities to help socialize her a little. It was completely ignored.

My father was a patient at the Laurel’s for 93 days and his stay was not favorable. While there he developed a pressure ulcer on his heel that took 8 months to heal. The aids were extremely slow to respond to call bell and refused to take him for walks because they were “too busy”. This is only a couple of things that were not good , there are more but too cumbersome to explain. I would not recommend this place for a loved one.

This facility has all the outward appearances of being clean and responsive to patients needs. BE WARNED: the staff is unresponsive to patient care, they procrastinate and caused our family a lot of frustration. For a patient with dementia they offer no therapy,,,,,,,, the patient is left to their own devices. One other suggestion: visit your loved one on a weekend or odd time. The staff simply ignores patients needs.

Facility is definitely under staffed. The times we visited no staff ever entered the room. We walked the halls and other than the front desk may have seen two staff members. Call button waits were long. The beds have half rails. The family requested full rails as the stroke patient could move around enough to fall out of the bed. Never happened in the time patient was there. Told family they had to order them? Seriously, a nursing facility which does not have this type of equipment on hand? Well, the patient was found one morning face down on floor after wiggling out of the bed. Would never recommend this place to anyone. They got one star because you have to before review continues, otherwise, no star!

My dad was at The Laurels of Steubenville for rehab. The place was extremely clean. The staff was very nice and caring, but I have to say I think they are short-staffed. The room was very clean and large and looked like a hospital room.

My grandmother was admitted there temporarily for rehab following a stroke. On first glance it looked like a very nice facility, howver looks can be decieveing. Staff was very mean and rude to residents. Also saw many residents strapped down to beds and being ignored. Medication was given late or not at all. The entire time my grandmother was there the room was never cleaned. Also your personal doctor has no privleges there you must use their doctors. They can change or stop your medications without knowing your current stiuation. many of the patients were dirty no showers were offered to the residents unless they complained. My grandmother went five days without a shower until the family complained and threatened to call the health department. All in all a very bad experience.
