I visited this facility

The Homestead of Sherman was clean, and there were lots of people moving about. The place was nice, the staff was warm, and the patients were happy. Everybody was really friendly. They were watching a movie when we were there.

I visited this facility

My sister has been a resident of Homestead of Sherman for over two years. She is very happy there and well cared for, I do not understand these bad reviews as they are definitely not what I have witnessed in the visits there. I stayed with my sister at all times of the day from early in the morning through the evening meal and observed the care she and others were receiving. The staff and care givers were not only friendly but very caring and patient. My sister loves them all and they seem to love her back!

this facility is filthy. The rooms, which are all double.... There are no private rooms are passable but the bathrooms are a disgrace. Only some of the rooms offer showers. Those that don't have one, the patients are taken to a community shower room. I'm not sure the bathroom in my mothers room has ever been cleaned. The tile floor is gross and the shower had pubic hair on the dirty floor from previous resident. Housekeeping has been in the room one time this week (but it was only to replace trash can liners) Nursing staff and aids are less than friendly, some being borderline rude to family members. The first day we were here, the two aids assigned to my mom had absolutely no idea what to do for her. They were very young and very sweet but not much help. They do have a great therapy department which my mother likes a lot. Not sure how much longer we can stick this out just for the therapy..... Please visit the site and witness for yourself. Wish we had. Do not just go by pictures on their site.

I visited this facility

Homestead of Sherman is a good place, and I like it. The staff is very attentive. I saw their rooms, and they are kind of small. There are also two patients in a room so that makes it hard.

Please do not allow your loved one to stay in this facility. We recently lost our loved one who had been there for 6 weeks. We had to argue with staff to get her taken by ambulance to a specific area hospital due to her declining health while being there However , after much arguing and questioning our teasoning for taking her to te hospital... they had her transported to the wrong hospital... And then blamed the ambulatory service for the mistake. Sadly, We lost out loved one just a few weeks later. Her health was so poor upon arrival to the ER...it was basically non recoverable . She had huge bedsores and was Weeping fluids from her skin. Why wasn't Homestead proactive for our loved one? All they did was deny the situation and tell us it was her own fault for not following their physical therapy routine. Sadly, she never recovered and passed away just weeks after leaving Homestead. Also, What are suppose to be single rooms are doubled up. This place is packed full.... Like sardines. When we asked about a private room, we were told there were only 2 private rooms and those were reserved for problem patients. Our lived one didn't have a chair or drawers on her half of the room. While they are packing 2 people into private rooms... They haven't allotted any extras in the 2 halves of the rooms. There is no privacy what so ever ! It is a sad, unacceptable place. We will forever regret entrusting Homestead with the care of our loved one. Please don't entrust them with the care of your loved one!! I feel It is my responsibility to warn others know how bad it really is at Homestead of Sherman.

I am/was a resident of this facility

PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. I had to stay at the Homestead of Sherman because my Dr thought I or my family could not do my IV antibiotic therapy at home, I arrived on a friday night and that is when the horrible experience began. It was late when I arrived and I was not nor was my Dr the one that chose the place, my husband and mother picked the place because upon first glance it appeared to be a beautiful place and when they took a tour of course everyone was friendly.. DON:T be fooled. Friday night none of my medications were available due to the time ( can not lay fault with the home for this one) but since I had just come from the hospital it would be common knowledge that the pain meds would wear off and the facility is not and will not do anything to help. Once in my room I changed and got into bed and was overpowered by the smell of urine, I told the nurse and she assured me the room had been cleaned, my husband called my Dr and was trying to figure out the medication issue, when the night nurse come storming into my room yelling about us contacting my dr, My second day was met with less medication obsticals but more trying to get answers to my questions about my insurance, food was delivered to my room that was completely uneatable, during my 4 day stay only two meals were eatable, they were both salads and I can not promise the second salad had not been someone's left over as there were pieces that looked like it had been cut with a fork or bitten off of several times I asked for just fruit, i figured it was safe, it is not, I got two different bowls of fruit that were soured. I was on the non resident wing, there was an elderly man across the hall that cried HELP for several hours with out any response from anyone, during my 4 days there that was the only time he did that so I know it was not something he just "did" We addressed the urine smell with the day nurse who again assured me it was cleaned before I got there, which I pointed out the blood on the bathroom wall and the left over food in the fridge, Head of housekeeping came in a cleaned him self and apologized , they wiped down my bed and alas no more urine smell... I tried several times to get a hold of someone at my insurance company to find out what would happen if I checked out myself, The social worker Tracy came into my room yelling at me and telling me she contacted my insurance herself and it would not cover my stuff at home, because it was a holiday weekend it took me until Tuesday to talk to my insurance myself, guess what, they do cover it, Tracy called me a liar so I decided to call them in her presence she then said she could kick me out of the place for being non complacent I said go ahead.. and kept dialing my insurance she stormed out saying she didnt need me to prove anything... All I am asking is people do your research and do not be fooled by the prettiness of the place... I was able to stand up for myself, can you imagine what your family that can not do that is going through.

Staff seemed to care for Granny very well. She could be a little ornery on occasion, but they took it in stride. My grandparents (Granny's daughter and son-in-law) visited her often and were always welcomed warmly. Facilities were well kept and looked nice.
