Searcy Healthcare Center

This facility was set up for mostly as a nursing home but they also provide assisted living services as well. My friend's room was adequate enough and the nurses and aides were all friendly enough but the feeling was geared more towards nursing home care. I felt that my friend would have benefited better with a different facility that was geared more towards assisted living instead, but unfortunately in Searcy, AR there just wasn't many choices available at the time. A different doctor came in on rotation schedule to see the residents there with the exception of my friend who had to be transported back and forth to see her own doctor. They had a main dining room set up for all the residents and there was a physical therapy room there for all residents to have access to. They also did provide exercises daily for everyone to enjoy and to participate in as well as off site recreation for the more mobile residents. (They could participate in fishing and a bar-b-que afternoon of fun) They did provide a schedule of daily arts and crafts for everyone to enjoy and music in the main dining room. Church services were provided every Sunday from different churches that came to the facility, in different areas of the facility. Overall as I have already stated, this facility was set up and geared mainly as a nursing home but also provided services to those who needed assisted living while in recovery for their individual needs. I would have to say that the facility itself was adequate but in need of additional space to help create a more homey feel to it, instead of a hospital feel to it. The entrance hall was the only place that I saw that provided extra seating for visitors and was more like a waiting room than anything. The individual rooms obviously had hospital beds but only one or two chairs available for visitors. The main entrance had couches and chairs available for visitors(like a waiting room) to visit with the residents but there was no real privacy for conversation. Searcy's "lock down" Alzheimer wing is wonderful expecially for early stages of the disease.. however they do not keep them in the wing once they become immobile. they offer many activities and interaction with the residents... However I do not recommend it once they are in the regular population .....
