Sherwood Park is everything you want in a skilled nursing/rehabilitation facility. The facility is at a perfect capacity with about 50 residents which makes the staff to resident ratio ideal. The staff are extremely helpful and amazing. They are really open and honest with the residents and residents families. They are some of the sweetest, most nurturing, friendliest staff members but I have also see them very aggressive, assertive, and frankly - ready to throw punches - if there was something endangering the residents or putting them at risk in any way. They are so protective over those residents. So, so, so protective. It's one of the things families comment on the most - they say no matter what happens they trust the staff to protect and care for their loved ones in any way necessary even if it means putting themselves at risk. And that is a care team to be proud of.

The facility is comfortable enough, I do wish that it looked a little less like a hospital and the residents rooms were a little more homey and private, meaning that I wish they were divided my more than just sliding hospital curtains because with the curtains the beds look more like what you would see in an emergency room or clinic. It just looks so "hard" in some areas, but the staff make up for that with how warm and friendly they are and they try very hard to make the facility home-like and comfortable for the residents but let's face it, it's a skilled nursing facility and rehab center so they need to have a certain type of environment and the necessary equipment around in order to provide the residents with proper care. They need to have certain items within arm's reach to use within a moments notice, so I expect it to somewhat look like a hospital or medical ward. Besides, the only skilled nursing facilities that I have seen that look really homey and cozy are very high-dollar ones and the care really wasn't worth the cost. Everyone is so inviting and there is always such a cheerful air about the place. There are many little nooks and sitting areas for residents and families to relax. I also love that the temperature inside the facility is also always perfect, most communities I visit it's either freezing cold or unbearably hot, here it's right the temp is at a happy medium which makes the facility even more comfortable.

I think that when the quality of care is so outstanding and when there is so much daily one-on-one attention and interaction with the residents than maybe one should be less concerned with what the facility looks like and focus on the fact that the residents are being cared for in the best way possible, this is not a nursing home where the residents lay around all day not being tended to or checked on, this is a facility that cares about your loved ones and their progress and they spend countless hours working with and caring for your loved ones to help them progress positively. Sherwood Park is the place you take your loved ones and trust that EVERYTHING that can be done, every exercise, therapy, treatment, etc., will be done and these methods will be used in a thorough, encouraging, and nurturing manner.
