I visited this facility

Only one day @ Rochester, then i transferred to another facility. Patient entrance not easy to find, road around bldg is in bad shape. Room was very depressing (colors, furnishings) , shared toilet with adjoining room, no shower. Food was not appealing. Staff was attentive but it couldn’t offset everything else.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

First and far most, there’s. Never any fresh water available for the patients. When they do have water, they place the water in a water cooler, and place the ice cubes in a picnic cooler. You help your self. It’s kept in the dirty cafeteria, where majority of the patients are in wheel chairs and unable to reach for water. The food is served “ice cold” and nasty looking. Nothing is fresh, vegetables are from a can, the coffee is old and cold. The pint of milk is Luke warm. But the water availability is so important for the patients .... they look dehydrated... and color of their skin.. is dull. The patients walk around bare feet, as well as the ones in the wheel chairs, where they push themselves. Don’t worry about having to buzz the nurse with the remote that’s wrapped around underneath the bed and “unplugged from the wall”. By 8:30 pm, all patients had been heavy sedated with medication where they sleep thru the night in their same cloths that they wore that day. And many if their doors are closed with all lights off. I went unexpected at 9:00 pm to visit my mom.... her door was closed, lights out and she was sitting upright in her bed “slumped over” the bed as if she was tieing her shoes... I screamed for the nurse, she was no where to be found... I couldn’t wake my mother up... she was so heavily sedated she did not wake up til morning. The hired help will even braid the patients hair out in the halls using someone’s bed table from a patients room. They would set the comb, brush batters, and Bobby pins and broken hair ends .. leaving them on the table. When done... the hired help will pick up their tools and with their hand just wipe their hand across the table , and not santizing the table. You see debris in the hall ways, and you can watch the staff just “ kick aside” the dirty napkin, paper cup, or dirty laundry against the wall, this place needs to be shut down, but not before the State makes an un- announced visit so they can witness their unsanitary operation. There’s more to report, but tooooo much to say and not enough time. I’m pulling my mother out and sending her to emergencies for dehydration. Please people ... report everything you see that’s wrong in this place....... people are dying and we have on video that the patients hanging out in the halls watch the deceased being carted away in a body bag on a stretcher for everyone to see. Get your loved ones out of this coachroach, filthy place.

Other

This place puts on a big front initially to make it seem as though it is an acceptable place to have a loved one cared for. However, this is NOT the case. After some time of being subjected to Medilodge of Rochester Hills, it became clear to me (and others) that this facility does not really & truly CARE about the residents. The staff is greatly lacking - in a variety of ways. Call lights (that some residents use to "call" for help) will go unanswered for an absurd length of time. In fact, there have been times I have seen a call light ignored for over an hour. The employees are also extremely unprofessional for the most part. If an "incident" is reported, nine times out of ten nothing will be done with regard to a suitable resolution. If a resident needs to be repositioned - well, good luck finding anyone to give proper assistance. The management is one big JOKE at this place. I have seen nurses and aides sitting down, chatting while patients are completely neglected. This facility will put one (usually inexperienced) nurse on staff for the night shift to (supposedly) "care" for 30 or more residents. I have been at Medilodge of Rochester Hills at night, and I have seen first hand countless instances of neglect. If you care about your loved one at all, you will make sure to never, ever put them in THIS place!

I am a friend or relative of resident

October 8, 2013 I would like very much to take this opportunity to post a review of this place so that everyone can make a responsible decision NOT to place a loved one here. I have a life long friend of 48 years who has been transferred to this facility since August 1, 2013. I have found this facility to be lacking in so many aspects. My friend is in the last stages of COPD and only has two teeth in which to eat meals. He has told me within the past week that he has not eaten in three days because they have served him meals of beef and chicken which he could not possibly chew or digest. He is shrinking in his weight and has become so weak all he does is sleep. I see his life ebbing away. This past Saturday, October 5, 2013, I was in to see him twice and both times he was asleep and I never saw any water or food on his table. So I went myself and bought him a hot bowl of soup at Whole Foods in Rochester Hills, and took it to him. When I arrived the second time, he still was asleep and very weak and pale looking. I was very disturbed. I tired to call the main number of the Medilodge and no answer. Finally a voicemail came on. I left a detailed message of how I was appalled at the lack of care given to my dear friend. That he told me he could not eat the food presented to him because none of it was chewable to a person with only 2 teeth. I told them I was going to call someone and find out what is going on in this facility, to which I did. My sister went in on Monday, October 7, 2013 to check on his condition and found his bed made and thought he had passed away. She inquired and found out he was taken to the hospital. They must have finally checked on him and found out he was past being in trouble. I have said all this to warm ANYONE considering bringing someone they love to this facility. RUN LIKE THE WIND AND NEVER COME THROUGH DOORS. This place is not a good place at all.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I am a friend of a resident of Medi Lodge Nursing Home. In general, I thought Medi Lodge to be a perfect choice for someone who is seeking placement for a friend or family member. It is the perfect place of serenity for anyone ages 50 and over to enjoy their years of comfort in. The ground of the facility are well maintained, structured and landscaped beautifully for anyone to enjoy the beauty of their comfort and also offers such a homey environment for their residents. The common areas of the facility are most tastefully decorated and also offer the best inviting common areas as well. the surrounding areas of the facility are also inviting and beautiful. The residents' rooms are beautifully decorated to fit each and every resident individual needs. The residents’ rooms do not smell and the residents are most happy there and convey congruently with one another. The atmosphere there is well balanced and structured within its community. The staff and management of the facility are very nice, professional, and team, task oriented in their job duties and performances. I think the residents receive excellent care there and the residents there are also treated like family by the staff and management there. While I was there, I noticed that the social society there attire was very formal and elegant and the staff members were always in sight for the residents there. They residents were having a variety of activities going on, recreational and other social functions for them to enjoy. The residents dining area was very formally coordinated to fit the formal attire of their residents. I would have to give Medi Lodge Nursing Home a five stars rating for their excellence and expertise. Overall, Medi Lodge Nursing Home is an excellent choice for placement for anyone 50 and over to enjoy their life at and I would recommend it to everyone, anyone age 50 and over; because I know that they will do well there and I know that they would like it there.
