I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is always clean and well taken care of when I visit on a random basis. They even had a nice electric shaver donated to him. Each person has their own individual room and share a bathroom with someone. They have a nice covered area for residents to gather and visit outside. Deer are welcome. They feed them corn so there is a chance you will see them on one of your visits.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My relative is in Washington Veteran Home-retsil. It's a nursing for the military and their wives. It's very nice, the food is really good, the rooms are terrific, and she's got a semi-private room. If I had a choice, and I had to go, that's where I would go. My relative loves it, they take her places, and it's exceptionally clean. I had lunch with her and I liked it. It's updated, they have a big screen TV with lounge chairs, they have bus trips going on, as well as card games, and bingo. It's only $5000 to stay there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am a close relative of a current resident I was so excited when they were able to get into this facility. My relative has a very rare and disabling disease however it mimics some more common diseases. It is a terminal disease and is quickly making them a quadriplegic. I am thankful for the facility, but am concerned about several things. There seems to be no conformity day to day with meds and other needs A bath is given only once a week, which is not enough especially for someone who cannot toilet himself without assistance. There needs to be more compassion and communication between staff and resident. Perhaps clear written daily schedule where both resident and staff can see. In order to make things work for each resident, needs must be assessed and worked out in away to help make the relationship successful. For someone who is not able to move about freely, this can be a scary and difficult thing. These persons need to know they matter and are cared about by all the staff. This resident can be difficult at times especially when they feel misunderstood. Staff needs to understand this and be trained in de escalating potential temper tantrums, etc in the resident. I am concerned the facility is understaffed. Most of the staff my relative is happy with but unfortunately there are a few who do not treat them with compassion and it frustrates them to the point of verbal anger. I just feel a little more professionalism is needed and staff meetings to encourage staff in their need to have caring roles The rooms are adequate. A little small for someone sentenced to a wheelchair. There are some activities for residents but some may be difficult to get to when the resident dies not have motorized transportation and the understaffing leaves no one to help him get to certain activities. The food is average. The resident must mobile to get to the main cafeteria where there is fresh salad offered everyday, otherwise the resident eats at a smaller cafeteria where there is one meal offered. I don’t want to be completely negative. This facility is a blessing and a lifesaver but there are improvements that really need to be addressed and improved.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband has been at Washington Veteran Home-retsil for a month. It's a full nursing home, but it doesn't have a nursing home feel. It's almost like assisted living. It's a large and beautiful place, fairly new, and it's very open and spacious. My husband has a semi-private room. There are three doctors and RNs all the time, and they're fully staffed. They have a lot of activities. The food is OK. Not very elegant, but it's food. It's very average.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother lives at the Retsil Veterans Home. She gets excellent nursing care and personalized service. . She says "They pamper me". There is an onsite beauty/barber shop where she gets a weekly set and style. There are multiple actives to choose from through out the week. I have visited other nursing facilities and I find the food at Retsil is much better. They offer two entrees per meal, a daily soup and salad bar twice a week. The physical building and grounds are beautiful. Bald Eagles regularly perch in the Fir trees and there is a deer herd that have called Retsil home for generations. There are many long-term caring staff in all departments with a low turn-over rate. A staff of doctors on site 5 days a week and on-call 24 hours. I wish my mother could be at home but that not being possible this is the best place. I trust them with my mother's care and well being. She is thriving and for that I am thankful

I am/was a resident of this facility

I lived in Washington Veteran Home. The staff were okay. Sometimes I had to wait for them to attend to me. The food could be better, sometimes the menu was not good. They considered the price rather than what the residents wanted. The activities were not too interesting. I just stayed on my computer most of the time.
