Quakertown Center

rates a 1 star for a reason- be warned!

Quakertown center had a make over in the last few years and it seems like a good place- much more spacious and homey and the staff seemed MUCH better than 2 other places where we had my Dad. I wondered why on earth it got only one star in Medicare's rating system (nursinghomecompare.gov). After two bouts with a hideous infection that ultimately killed my dad, I now know. In reviewing the deficiencies after the fact, I realized two of them had to do with the places inability to have an effective infection control process. My father was one of the people in better shape when he arrived and he had a very good experience with the physical therapy staff there- ultimately though none of that mattered because he contracted C-Diff there and after some gruesome experiences I wish we could have been spared, that is what took his life. If you have no other choices available to you, as we did not because other better ranked places wouldn't accept him because of his age and lack of assets, then be extremely vigilant about your loved ones care- particularly when it comes to procedures involving the possible spread of infection (ie. catheter changes). ALso, if you end up thinking that Briar Leaf in Doylestown would be better because it's a four star rating, i'm sorry to say that place is horrible in a different way- extremely uncaring staff and cramped dark old spaces.
