My father was in Life Care Center of New Port Richey. It was good, but they can't do any restraints. After he slept for two hours, he was in the chair the whole day. His legs and feet were swollen and a few times he was wet and the noise he makes was terrible. They did the best they could do, but a few times he was wet and it really made me mad because when I brought him home, his butt's all raw, that's probably from sitting in the chair 24/7. Life Care was probably one of the best ones around here. He was there for three to four weeks, but I just had to get him out of there. Some of the staff I'd give a five, some I'd give a four, and one girl, I'd give a zero. I would go up there and sit next to my dad's bed because the only time he could lay in bed is if somebody was sitting there watching him. They had to use a lift to pick him up because he wasn't walking. One time I said to the girl, "Can you give me a hand? I need to lift to get him out of bed." She looked at me and said, "Well, it's not easy getting him in and out of bed." That made me mad. I said, "You think it's easy for him to sit in a chair 24/7?" Other than that, the staff was all really nice. The food was really good. It's a very nice facility.

My mom has been in the Life Care Center of New Port Richey for a month now. They are very conscious of COVID. We started out with COVID tests every two days, and then you have to wear protective stuff while you're in there, so I really like that during this pandemic. They make sure that you can still see your loved one, which I think is critical. Everybody I have come across is very helpful and very sweet. She has a nice bed, and her room looks nice and clean. The food seems to be good. Now that she has moved into the normal space and she is out of the COVID-quarantine area (because they quarantined them for three weeks), they have a nice small area where they can eat, and I think it is also their TV room. She seems to like her food. The dietitian called me today and made sure that I know my mom's weight and what kind of food she was eating, so I would say they're good. For someone who needs high-level care, I think it is very good. I don't think it is fancy and over the top, but it seems to be clean, and it is just what the people need there.

Do not let your loved ones be admitted here. My grandma chose to come to this location for her rehab after she broke her ankle due to the location, and I should also mention she was on oxygen 24/7. Huge mistake. They took her for a shower two or three times in the 3 weeks that she was there. And the first time was after a night nurse let her wet the bed while using a bed pan and told her she didn't. It wasn't until the morning nurse came in and saw her sheets were wet and changed them. However, she didn't change them right away, she took the old sheets off, and didn't come back with new ones for at least 6 hours. She was supposed to get a shower that night, but when we came to visit her the next day she STILL hadn't had a shower. Also, from the first day she got there (Tuesday) she had been complaining that her mouth and throat were bothering her to the point where she could hardly eat. She was seen by a Dr there until the following Monday. Even then, she was in the restroom when the "Dr" Fortner showed up and "examined" her through the door?? Sorry, but I can't imagine how thoroughly you can examine a patient you've never met before through a door. Then when my family requested a meeting with her, she told my us "Well if you don't like the care you're getting here, you can go somewhere else." That is the most unprofessional thing I've ever heard a doctor say. We immediately requested a different doctor. For her first follow up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon, she had to be transported to her appointment by the life care facility because we didn't have a vehicle to accommodate her in her wheelchair and she was unable to get into the car on her own at the time. We met her at the appointment where she was dropped off for her 3:00 appointment at 2:45. 3:00 comes and goes and by 3:30 she's already feeling week because she has been in her wheel chair for hours before this and she didn't fare well in it already. So we asked how much longer it would be and they told us another 45 minutes at least because they were running behind. We asked why it would be so long when her appointment was at 3 and the nurse at the desk showed us that her appointment wasn't actually until 3:30. At that point she was running out of oxygen and couldn't wait longer. So whoever wrote down her appointment at the center wrote it wrong, and although I can't say for sure that it was for this reason, it seems like they wrote the wrong time, so that the driver could take her and another resident that had a 245 appointment at the same time. She was unable to be seen that day because her oxygen levels dropped too low for the office to consider seeing her. When the driver came back to get her, we asked why he didn't leave her with a second oxygen tank and he rolled his eyes, and said he did, that he put it on the other patients wheelchair. He claims he told her but she had no memory of that, and she's not forgetful of something that life threatening to her. After this we immediately requested a meeting with the director and nothing was really solved. It seemed like she just said what we wanted to hear but nothing actually changed. My grandma just got more and more sick the longer she stayed at this place and would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm

I was in Life Care Center New Port Richey for rehab after I had my stroke two years ago. They were very good. They had good, nutritious food and portions that was right for you. You wouldn't be hungry there. There was a lot of physical activity. I did some weight lifting and walked a lot. They had markers to tell you how much walking you've done. It was a very good place that didn't smell and was very clean and very nice. I was a cook for 25 years, and they actually let me help out with cooking a couple of times one day they were shorthanded. The staff was very good and very helpful. When you call, they come; I did not have to wait. My daughter asked if my little dog could visit me, and they said as long as he had his rabies shots and he wasn't aggressive, she could bring him in to visit. There were plenty of activities. The grounds were beautiful, so you could walk around outside.

My wife is in rehab after a bad experience in another facility so I can compare services. In Lifecare, the facility is both attractive and the staff is attentive. The meals are well prepared with alternatives on the menu. The staff members have treated my wife with care and respect. They could answer the patient call quicker but I think they do their best. In all facilities, it behooves the patient to have family members or a friend monitor care. All in all Lifecare is responsive to the needs of patients and residents.

My mom was at Life Care Center four months ago. I thought the level of care was really good. The worse problem was that the doctor released her without talking to me first that she was coming back to my house. My mom had told them that she had 100% care at home and everything, but she didn’t, so it’s like she tricked them. She had put herself in jeopardy. It wasn’t like I didn’t want her home, it is just that she didn’t want to be in the rehab so she told them that she had somebody here and that she would be fine, but then she ended up back in the hospital. The rooms were very nice. I was happy with the room. Atmosphere seemed really good too. There was ice cream social that she was excited about, but I don’t know if there was other stuff.
