I visited Casa de Modesto last week. They've got very good people and it's a nice place. I got a very nice tour. They were all very nice and it's very clean. I was looking at models that they have there, and it's a little bit expensive. They charge for lunches, breakfast, and dinner, which I thought was OK. The layout was good. It was about two blocks from a shopping center. They got a little bus there and they take you back and forth. It's good if you can't get around. I can get around, so I'm not concerned about it right now. The receptionist was very friendly. The tour guide was extremely friendly and not pushy at all and wanted to do anything that would help me, which was her job. They have a ladies' salon there. They've got a library. They've got a private little area where you can go in with a small group of people and be comfortable. They've got a gym and a dining room. The dining room has tables and chairs, not a bench-type eating area, which I would prefer.

We did a quick tour of the memory care area at Casa de Modesto. It was above average. The facility was older, but I liked that it was quieter. I think my mom needed a quiet setting, so I liked it that way.

My mother-in-law will be moving into Casa de Modesto. What I like (and this is coming from a family member's perspective) is that, when I walked in, the place was very hospitable and clean. Their residents seemed very well dressed, well-groomed, and happy. The staff was warm and welcoming. I was able to walk freely amongst the memory care unit to explore what the rooms and the common room looked like. I was just overall very impressed with the set-up there. I respected the coordinator's ability to understand how hard the decision is. Sue came to our home and did a home visit as well. She walked us through this process, and I appreciate it. She's the one who's coordinated the paperwork and continually did the paperwork for everything. We haven't tried the food but they're willing to accommodate my mother-in-law's likes and dislikes with food and dietary needs. I was so impressed. It almost looked like it's two blocks wide and two blocks long like they have an array of different degrees of assisted living, so I just can't say enough about it when I pulled up to see a building like that. One thing that was important to my mother-in-law is the social stimuli. In addition to that, the facility has a gift shop, a family area, and a common area for visiting. People are walking like it's a retirement community and not a hospital. I felt like it was a nice senior experience for her. They looked very happy.
