I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We got my mother placed in Catholic Eldercare on Main. I would recommend it. So far, it has been very nice. Everyone is very helpful and very friendly, and they seem to take a lot of care about what they're doing. They are very, very helpful all the way around for everyone. They have therapy and all the usual stuff. The place is well run as far as I can tell. I remember seeing places that my wife's parents were in and they were very nice, too, but not like this one. My mother is basically in nursing care. She is sharing a room with another woman. The staff are extremely helpful, very pleasant, and always as competent as possible in taking care of business. I haven't tried the food, but my mother seems to be eating properly and fine, and that's all I care about. They do a good job at keeping the place clean and on top of things. They have activities. My mother doesn't partake in them, but I've seen volunteers come in and do a little Nerf bowling with some of the patients. They have musical ones, and my mother happened to see one activity where they brought some llamas in. One thing is that they go to medical assistance when needed, so it's not all private pay and we don't have to move her again, so that's a consideration there. Financially, it's much better to go there. It is a nice place.

Catholic Eldercare on Main is a well-kept, clean, and professionally run facility. The staff is very good. The room my father is in right now has a TV. They provide a bed, a built-in closet, and a lounge chair. The food is pretty good. They have a foyer or a reception area and you take the elevator up to the second floor where he's at. They have many activities as well.

You have to be an advocate - a strong advocate. This includes the timing of medications and other services that could be involved for the quality of life for your family member. You need to go to the family councils, and care meetings and state your case. They are understaffed as are most nursing homes and hire those who are hard to understand and are here for the paycheck only not for love of the elderly. Look for a place that hires the Ethiopians or Kenyans--they believe that it is an honor to work with the elderly. There are some really good workers here but they are outnumbered by those who consider it just a job. It is clean and the residents are well fed and the nursing director and social worker seem to genuinely be concerned about the elderly they serve.

In our experience, the facility is routinely understaffed and poorly trained. It's next to impossible for a family member to talk to staff about concerns or to report symptoms or illness. You have to chase staff down the hall to speak with them and then concerns arenever communicated from one shift to the next, Ultimately critical care goes unaddressed until patient is in a full blown emergency crisis. Norovirus runs rampant every winter due to the staff's careless hygiene practices (not changing gloves in between patients or wiping down tables etc). I hear residents crying for help for hours and Staff just ignore call lights. If they do respond to call lights I hear through the walls Residents being treated in a demeaning and undignified manner. AIdes are rude, rough handed and inpatient. I would not recommend this facility... Pretty much a nightmare.

I visited this facility

I was impressed with Catholic Eldercare. It was very clean, had a lot of amenities, was in a great location, and staff that we met was very friendly. I liked that they had a restaurant right on-site. The dining area was very clean, very large, had very homey feeling, and was very comfortable. The room was spacious, very bright, and had large windows.

I visited this facility

I visited the facility on Randolph for memory care. I really liked it. We had a meal in the main dining hall. It was reported that the memory loss clients are integrated into the community. I like the apartment that would be available to my parent. It was reported that most of the stoves were not in use but the idea of my parent having their own kitchen was inviting. I appreciated that our guide/host reported that her own parent was at CE when she was alive. There was daily mass offered at the attached church and also at CE. The in house coffee shoppe and beautiful fireplace lounge and wide hallways seemed inviting in every nook. 2 medical staff took time to answer our questions and although they were busy were informative. Please see this facility just to compare to others as a baseline of what memory care can be like..
