I visited this facility

When we first brought my grandmother to the assited living home we felt great about it. We had taken a tour of the facility, met numerous staff members, etc. etc. It felt good to know that she would be taken care of, although my family was sad that we could not take care of her ourselves, we knew it would be the best thing for her and for us. As the months went on, numerous things started to go come up. My grandmother would say that she was missing articles or clothing or belongings were missing. Of course, at first we thought well maybe she misplaced them, but when a few of my family members went to look they also discovered things were missing. My grandmother was supposed to be bathed and get her hair and nails done each week, as a part of a service we paid for. There were always excuses to why she was not able to have this done, never solid excuses things like oh, there were too many people who we needed to take care of and so on. Then we noticed that my grandmother was losing rapid amounts of weight, she has always been a slim, fit woman, but she looked completely emaciated. When asking her why, she told us that if she wasn't finished eating her food, they did not care they would just take it away and send her to bed. My grandmother is a slow eater, but she is also an old woman; how is this acceptable? Anytime anyone in the facility falls, or has some sort of accident the assisted living care center is supposed to notify the family of the person immediately. My grandmother had fallen twice in one day and we were not notified until 3 days after the fact. What if something terrible had happened to her? What if she had gone to the hospital? Would they still call us 3 days after the fact? There have many other issues with this facility and at the time we are searching for a new one. My family and I are not sure if this is the case of some or most of the people who have their loved ones in this facility because alot of the family members never come in to check on their loved ones, which is sad in many cases. But for anyone who lives in Connecticut, near the sorrounding area, I would not suggest that you leave your loved ones in the care of these people and this facility. For the past 2 years it has been nothing but a struggle and an up-hill battle with these people and we are hoping to find a new place for her, where we will feel much better about VERY soon!
