I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have to give a very bad review to Villa Vista and would never give a recommendation to anyone to use this facility. My husband’s bed was left unmade and I had to go to nurses station to ask to have it made. Neal’s were served cold with no effort to reheat them. Had to ask several times to get him showered and clothes changed. They asked to have his Cpap Bought up and never used it. His diabetes meter for his arm was delivered and left at nurses station where we had to request it when we left. They also tried to give us someone else’s item when we were leaving. Given one days notice that my wheelchair boynd unable to stand by himself or get around by himself before they tossed him out. Blamed transportation for one hour and more delays in transport but after I got transportation gave us their direct number no more problems. Communication was horrible. Night nurse constantly complained about instructions from dialysis unit. Also put a dressing on his foot (7day dressing) not so. Made a bad sore shaped like the dressing. When we asked them to remove dressing and check feet was told to have home nurse do it three days later when they did it was horrible to look at. Case manager all nice but sure don’t follow through to staff. One bright exception was Margaret on second shift section C. Wonderful caring person in a sea of people who new to be in a different profession especially that small gray haired nurse

Glad my mom could speak for herself and knew she had already had her medication. I noticed different nurses came into her room and tried to give double medication within about 2 hrs. she spoke up and told the nurse she already had taken her medication on that day. Overall, the staff: Nursing, housekeeping, Therapy and food services was great, and we felt apart of the family @ Via Christi Village Manhattan! My mother really enjoyed her month stay and said after she is better, she would love to volunteer at the skilled nursing Ascension Living. Note there really needs to be more staffing on the overnight shifts some nights/early morning it would take the nurses several hours to come into her room after she had pulled the alert button near her bed. She stated that she could hear staff talking and laughing but no one came to check what she needed. These issues and concerns were brought up to the social worker who was awesome at trying to resolve these issues. Please consider hiring more nursing staff so the Village can continue to be a safe and loving place to live.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in assisted living there at Via Christi Village Manhattan. They're taking care of her. She first started in their rehabilitation area after she broke her hip, and she got through that. Then, we got her into the assisted living room that she's in now. Just a few weeks ago, she had a heart valve put in, and she's doing well with that now. She didn't have to go to the rehab area after the heart valve. They're dealing with her in their assisted living, and so far they they've done well. There are always some things that you wish they would've done a little differently, but overall they're doing well. She's in one big room. It has a bed, a small kitchen, a little living room, and a bathroom. Right now, respiratory and physical therapy come to see her, plus they have different things during the week that the residents are doing out in the main foyer. In fact, she did a little bowling down the hallway this afternoon. They have different things like that, and they have some happy hours. Overall, they try to keep them busy. The staff seems nice. I don't have any complaints there. The price is just a little high.

The nursing staff is great here! Very caring and attentive. Other residents seem to love living here and are happy. My aunt was here in rehab and she recieved stellar care the whole time. The therapy team is absolutely amazing!

I am a friend or relative of resident

I would never let my loved reside at this facility. Many of the nurses are not experienced with the job they are suppose to do. Many nurses are lazy and never leave the nurses station. I have witnessed a nurse come to work late and then spend 30 minutes in the bathroom putting on makeup and doing her hair. Several nurses have med errors and are never reprimanded for their mistakes and so they continue to make med errors to the result of residents having to be hospitalized. When there is a good nurse that other nurses don't like they will find a way to have them fired. Corporate has been notified and they blow the problem off. DON has been informed of issues and frankly doesn't not care. I feel state needs to investigate this LTC facility and possibly close it.

I am a friend or relative of resident

The facility looks nice but is actually pretty dirty overall. When visiting on several occasions I saw the same grime on walls and dust, paper etc. under some of the beds. They always seem to be short staffed, running around just to do basic care, much less spend any quality time with the residents. Staff often seem cross and I even saw a nurse on day shift yelling at a resident. I have seen things that should be done privately done in front of others, and overheard negative staff conversations about managements lack of support or concern for staff and their concerns. Sometimes negative things were said about residents in front of residents. On one occasion I overheard the director of nursing talking very negatively about some staff members to other staff. Staff are also often on their cell phones. I don't know if this is much different than other facilities as I have never been to one to compare it to. Overall, the residents seems happy though some often look dirty and there are a lot of bad smells even in the dining room where people are eating.
