I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I would not want my worse enemy to have to stay at this facility, due to the lack of compassion the management staff have for the residents. My grandfather was at the facility for nearly 3 month, and some of the staff were great to him. We had to ask on a daily and weekly basis for housekeeping to come and clean his room and walking down the 200 wing constantly smelled like urine. On 4/7/23 our family was informed that we needed to have hospice become involved. My grandmother was given two options that the facility was contracted with, and my grandmother inform the office manager Robin that we wanted to go with a different company as the two options did not provide 24 hour bedside assistance. She proceeded to tell my grandmother "We use these two companies because they are very fast and will have equipment here in 45 minutes". The family told her that we wanted to go with a different option and she told us that we couldn't do that but would ask the administrator Tim. The company that we wanted to take care of our grandfather in his final moments sent over the needed paperwork to get the process started. Tim was rude and hateful that we wanted to go with a different company and that they don't bill for all of their services such as the 24 hour bed side care. We never heard back from Tim and we do not know if he actually sent over the contract to their corporate office for us to get the services our grandfather deserved. Our family did use one of the companies that we were forced to use to get our grandfather the end of life care. After my grandmother signed the needed paperwork, it took over 4 hours for the hospice social worker to meet with the family. When Robin said it is a quick turn around to have the hospice social worker come out. After meeting with the hospice nurse there were 3 new comfort medications that my grandfather was prescribed. I had to ask the hospice nurse 3 separate times that were was one medication that the on site staff has not given him. We received the run around that they didn't have the medication, then it was in the E Box but not liquid and would need to be crushed. Then the forth time I said that if he does not receive this medication I will be contacting the Board of Health and filing a complaint. Then the on site nurse was magically able to find the medication he needed. My grandfather passed the following day and we never heard anything back from the administrator Tim on the status of the contract that we was to send to his corporate office. We contracted the hospice company that we wanted to go with originally and they never heard from Tim or the corporate office, and even attempted to reach out via email and phone and were ignored. I will never recommend this nursing home to anyone.

My father was at Venetian Gardens. He liked the nurses there. The facility was clean and the staff was friendly. It was set up like an Italian hotel, and it looked nice. The upkeep was good, too. They had a podiatrist, physical therapy, a beauty salon, and a very large dining hall. They should improve their food because it wasn't quite as good as it should have been. I think it would be better if the food was prepared on site.

The rooms are ok. The staff is not around much. My mother has dementia and I haven't seen any activities with the residents. When I was there the dining room was dirty food on he tables and floors. There were gnats flying around. They brought lunch in and sat it on the dirty tables.

This facility is atrocious. We had a resident that lived there from 2018-2021, the care is pitiful. Residents wear others clothes, we would come and visit, and every time my loved one would have other peoples clothes on. They would not shave or give him a weekly bath or make sure he was changed. Room was also not clean. My loved one had money taken from their room as well.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a patient at the Venetian Gardens. I was in a rehab part of it during that time because I had fractured my arm in 19 places. The shortage of staff would be the least liked. They were short of staff, and they could have used at least twice the amount of staff. They had nice activities and the food was out of this world. The rooms were like private rooms, but yet they were semi-private. Two people were in a room, but there was a wall between the two people before you went out the door. Their chef was phenomenal. They would have little parties for the different holidays. For example, they had a Father's Day party where the fathers were all recognized. They made a point of acknowledging everybody's birthday by putting their picture outside in the hallway with some kind of a notice saying it was such and such a person's birthday this week. They had church services two and three times a week. I didn't get to participate in a lot of them, though. They were always clean and didn't have that old people smell. My stay was paid for by Medi-Cal. I was there for almost a month because then I would have had to start to pay out of pocket.

My father-in-law stayed at Venetian Gardens for rehab. Because of COVID, we couldn't get him in the other place. He wasn't improving, so insurance cut him off, and then we had to pay for a week of care. They lost all of his clothes, except for one pair of socks and one T-shirt, and I gave them everything. When they were transferring him from Venetian Gardens to the other place, he wasn't even in a pair of pants that I bought him. He was in a dirty pair of sweatpants, and he doesn't own sweatpants. We called them and said, "Can we get a discount on the week that we had to pay for because you lost all of his clothing?" and they said that they are not responsible for any lost articles of clothing. They lost his glasses, too. We ended up having to pay the whole bill. We were not happy campers. It cost us $2,300 for that one week. Their fees were expensive. I don't think that their care was up to par. They weren't giving him the fluids that he needed, they weren't feeding him, and you couldn't go in and visit because of COVID. I was very disappointed.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My brother-in-law was at Venetian Gardens for more than three weeks. He's been there twice. It's an excellent facility. The people are very caring, and the food was decent enough. Those that are able to go, they have a bus that takes them out to different places. They have a big dining room, and they have activities there. They took very good care of him and still taking good care of his wife. We were able to take her to the funeral so that she could participate. She has Alzheimer's, so we weren't really sure how well she would do, but she did pretty good. They even sent an aide along with us to take care of her at the funeral. I would recommend Venetian Gardens highly.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has been a resident here for a couple months. Her previous nursing home (where she had lived for years on private pay) started reporting her as violent a month after she went broke and moved on to Medicaid. They asked for a psych eval at a hospital and, after Mom left and was evaluated, refused to accept her back. We found Venetian to be warm and welcoming. Even the administrator knows the residents by name and acted in a genuinely caring manner when he showed us around. We noted that residents were up and active in the gathering areas (always an important sign). The spaces are clean and there is no urine smell, so common among some nursing homes. The staff are bright and cheerful, very supportive. I've reviewed their records (at their request) and confirmed the list of medicines and medical history. The semi-private rooms are the largest to be found around Cincinnati, with big windows. They have a partial wall separating the semi-privates. My mom is in a secured dementia unit and the nurses love her and say she has a very sweet attitude. They wheel her out of the dementia unit for meals in another dining room, just to give her more range. This is not a convenient location for us, but it's the environment for Mom that's our key concern. Between my brother's family and mine, Mom is visited 3-5 times aweek and we always see the same level of professionalism and cleanliness. We did look at their history and Venetian Gardens does have some warts in the past, but they also show an improving trend and their latest evaluations are pretty good, on par with what we've witnessed.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husbands grandfather just moved here, and I have to say it does not get a thumbs up in my book. The outside is well kept as well as the inside. Altho it has the look and feel of being in a hospital. When walking threw the halls no residents were in any of the "gathering areas". The staff was helpful but kept out of sight. The bathroom in my grandfathers "semi-private" room is being held together by duct tape in more than one spot. The rooms are much like hospital rooms down to the beds. For the price they charge i would expect a more like home feeling. In my opinion you should not stay here unless on your death-bed.
