My mother was transferred to the nursing center after a pelvic fracture. She had been living on her own driving her car paying her bills. Within 6 months at Delmar she was incontinent had staff infection and pneumonia and died within days of my insisting on an ambulance to get her to the hospital. At Delmar she sat slumpted in a wheelchair all day wet and dirty. Aides never combed her hair or helped her put on her make-up. Staff and administrators were rude and uncaring--most never learned her name. Food looks attractive but has no taste and nursing center residents get the leftovers from assisted living--fake crab salad or thin vegetable broth they call soup. The evening before I took her out of Delmar by ambulance I asked her aide to help her get ready for bed and the aide told Mother to do it herself. 24 hrs later Mother was in intensive care where she died. The landscaping is beautiful but residents are never taken outside to enjoy it. The activity directors try but the aides park the residents in front of the music just to give themselves a break and residents sit there hurting hungry wet and ignored. This place will break your loved ones spirit and yours. The beautiful setting is a sham to cover up the terrible soul-crushing neglect. I was paying over $8000/mo to watch my mother deteriorate--so much for rehab. Your loved one deserves better--my mother certainly did. Blessings to you.
