My husband is at Brookdale Lakeway. He's in Clare Bridge, and I liked the staff. I thought they were very good to him. The only problem is they had a leaky roof. It's going through the lights for over a month. They told me they fixed it, but the next day, it leaked. I said, "This is a hazard. There's water going into his light over his bed and he had puddles for a while." They said, "What if we move his bed over here?" He had another leak show up later on the other side of the room and it's like, you're not going to move them out of this room. Do you just think we should just put them on another side of the room? Who else wants to do that? I don't care if he has dementia or not. You don't treat people like that I gave them the benefit of the doubt. They supposedly fixed it the next day it leaked. The director comes in and says, "We could just move him over here and by the way, we're raising your rates." He didn't win my heart. Other things bothered me, but I thought the staff was good, and it had the levels up to assisted skilled level on the ground, so if he got to that point, they could move him up there. I just hated to move him, but I'm going to have to. I just can't leave someone in a room with that leak. I feel horrible every day. I worry if it's going to catch fire. There's another couple that had flooding in their room, too. Their food wasn't great. They have a lot of celebrations, a lot of TV, and they do some activities for some of them, but my husband didn't do a lot. Whenever I was there in the afternoons and the evenings, they just turn the TV on full blast and sat them in front of it. They did do a field trip with them.

I was a resident of Brookdale Lakeway twice, and the most recent stay was after my surgery. They treated me fantastically. It was assisted living, so they took care of my prescription. I didn't even have to provide it; they got it from my doctor and ordered all the new prescriptions. And they gave me the medication when I needed them, I didn't have to ask them or anything. They prepared three meals a day, cleaned your room, and do your laundry. They took care of everything and it was fantastic, plus the people were great. My insurance paid for all of it. The room I had there was more like you're in a hospital. I didn't have to share my room with anybody, but I had to share the bathroom. I had a single room with a bed and share the bathroom with the person next to you. They had a little gym that was on the same floor, and I could just walk to the dining room or they would bring the food to my room. They had a library on the first floor, and they would periodically announce on the intercom that they're having things like bingo on which room on which floor and that you're welcome to go. They have stuff like that and activities. But I was in the assisted living place where they would help you, they would even help me bathe. They also have a living area where you can have your own apartment. It's a beautiful place. I would rate them a 5 because they're fantastic. They have a nurse on-call all the time, so if you have a problem you can call the nurse. After I got out of surgery, she had several new patients and we were talking. Then the nurse asked me if I'm OK because I don't look good, did the vitals on me and said I need to go to the hospital. She called an ambulance and took me to a hospital, where they found out I had blood clots in my lungs. They take care of you, and I can't complain about them. When I got back, I heard the staff speaking Spanish all day long. They were nice, so we got along beautifully. I didn't have a problem with it. They treated me really well. The food was good, but I was used to better or tastier stuff. I wouldn't mind moving into one of their apartments that you can rent.

Brookdale Lakeway is very nice. The staff is excellent and very accommodating. My father is still adjusting. There's plenty for him to do if he took advantage of it, but he's not there yet. Bingo, arts and crafts, and exercise rooms are all available. The dining area is very nice and the food is very good. One thing it does have that none of the other facilities do is that the residents are able to go to the dining room all day long and eat; you can go anytime. The cost of all of the places was just shockingly expensive to me.

Brookdale (Brookdale Lakeway) is very nice. I’ve made several friends. I’m pretty satisfied and enjoying myself here. I have a nice comfortable room, and the people are nice. The nurses have been very good. The food could be improved, though, but they try their best to please. I don’t have any complaints about the staff.

I believe the family is paying around $10,000 a month at Brookdale Leeway, so I expected that the care would be better and, unfortunately, it was worse. I had to do most of her care. There was a 24-hour period where she didn't get any care at all. I know that because I had fed her on the day that she came in and spilled food on her gown, and when I came back the next day, she didn’t look like she’s been washed and the same gown was on her with the same stain. I wouldn’t rate them highly at all for the overall patient care, which I don’t believe was very good. I don’t know what they did when I wasn’t there because the lady couldn’t talk, so she couldn’t holler or anything. If they didn’t touch her for 24 hours when I wasn’t there, I imagine she was just left alone. My impression was that the patient-to-nurse ratio was not good. She had a large room with carpeted floor that wasn’t overly elaborate. It’s a Brookdale in a nice area, and the family had money, but the care was substandard.
