I went to White Oaks at the Groves Senior Living Community. I put a deposit down for the room if we need it, but my father may be going into hospice instead. The tour was great. The ladies were super nice. It felt super comfortable if my father needs to go there. They know this is going to be a short-term stay, so they were able to cut the community fee for me. I really appreciated that. Meals are included in the monthly cost. They offer the hospice nurses as well, so that's covered by Medicare. We're very happy and very satisfied. I was very comfortable. It's a beautiful facility. The ladies there that gave us the tour were phenomenal. We really appreciated them.

I like that White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community had a tiered program where you could start in independent living and then move into assisted if you needed to. They had multiple levels of independence and care, which is something that we were looking for. The staff was nice, but overall, I wasn't that impressed with the facility itself. For someone who is elderly, there were way too many stairs, there didn't seem to be enough ramps or elevators and there wasn't space for wheelchairs in a lot of areas. It ended up not being a good option for us. In the independent space, they do not include meals. But it is an option, and you can add it. I also saw people having a little Bible study in a common space, and it was very sweet and very cute. There was a reading room like a library, a puzzle/book room, and a movie room. They had a lot of really cool amenities as far as things to do, but the facility was an older building and it kind of needed some work in my opinion.

White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community wasn't a newer facility. It didn't have the bells and whistles that the other places did. You can tell that it was very used and very worn. It was a different atmosphere. They didn't have limitation on the respite care. That was one of the good points. You could go in there any time, but the cost was a little higher. The lady was very good. She showed us through the whole facility, explained everything, and was very knowledgeable.

White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community had the 70s wall. They said they are trying to update it slowly, but it's so dark in there. It's not my thing, but somebody else might like it. They had a swimming pool. They don't have efficiencies, but they had one and two bedrooms. The one bedroom had a spacious, open living room, but the kitchen was very dark and needed updating badly. They had a theater that needed updating as well. Overall, the whole thing was just too dark. I couldn't be comfortable there. The staff was very pleasant. They had common areas inside, but as far as courtyards or somewhere, they did not have that. They had one place they said they gather and that's the front and I wouldn't call it a courtyard.

I went and toured White Oaks at the Groves Senior Living Community. The tour was good. The only thing is, they showed me apartments that were not ready, so I didn't really like that because I didn't get a full picture. These were apartments that were still being renovated or rehabbed where people had moved out. The staff was very nice. The facility itself was nice. I would say the living atmosphere was good. They offered a lot to the residents. If you stayed there, they had game nights and pool tables. They had a lot of activities that a person could enjoy.

White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community was one of the first places we went to for my father and his wife. On the independent living side, we're looking at two bedrooms, two baths. The community area in the groves was a large atrium-type setup with a swimming pool, a 30-foot swimming pool on one side, and a movie room off the other side with a pool table, and card table game tables. They also had a fitness center. I liked the place myself. Both buildings were well maintained and taken care of, but the assisted living side lacked something. It wasn't as cheerful, or bright. Kind of like they had the dark paint, but they didn't. That was light-painted, but for some reason on the assisted living side, I just didn't feel as comfortable. So it certainly appears fine.

My mother-in-law has moved into White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living. The staff seems to be nice. It's all looking nice to me. She's got a window, and there's a patio where she can go sit outside if she wants. They got bingo, and they do exercise and some kind of games. My mother-in-law said the food was okay.

I toured White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. The tour was great. I loved it. It's a little hilly, but I like the concept because you can have independent living, and then if you get to where you need assisted living, you can get assisted living. Not to mention they have healthcare people that come right there to the facility. It's a beautiful facility. However, for me, a dealbreaker is not being able to have my own washer and dryer. The young man who waited on me, his name is Al, and he was just so accommodating. He gave me all the information I needed. They showed me the rooms. The facility is a little bit older than a couple of the other facilities that I've been to, but it's very accommodating because you don't even have to go outside to travel from one building to the next building because they have like a tunnel-like area. Their dining area is very open and inviting. It's a big common area where everybody goes to eat and everything. They have a lot of recreations, and there's a swimming pool. They have laundry facilities. They only have like four machines down in the basement. And the people that I encountered were very nice and accommodating.

I am moving in at White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. I chose this place mainly for the price, but it's also a decent place to live. They didn't have all the amenities that I was hoping for, but I think that's going to improve because I talked to the guy that's in charge of everything now, and he had a good feeling about it. I only met him and he just seemed like he was on top of everything and had some good ideas for the place and cared. They had an exercise room that had one thing in it. I think they can improve on a lot of things. But I also think that this guy just started and I think he's going to try to bring it back to the glory days. It's pretty centrally located in Independence, so it's close to downtown.

I liked White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. When you go out of your apartment, you get a nice view and I enjoyed that. The rooms looked good and adequate. They had a kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator, but you had to supply everything else. They had a swimming pool in the middle around all the rooms and they had activities available like card games. Everything there was adequate. The staff who assisted me with the tour was very nice. He was the maintenance man, so he was in a hurry.

We've toured White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community and I liked it. I loved the landscaping, it was pretty. It had a very calm atmosphere inside and out, and that appealed to me. The thing that was the hardest was that it was a lot of walking for my mother-in-law to get around. The staff members were very helpful and very informative. We were able to see a larger room, which is the only one they had available, but she wouldn't have been able to afford that. The facility itself was very pleasant.

We toured White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. It was a nice walk-through. The places themselves were clean and very nice. The people that I spoke with were very nice as well. If it had been a proper fit, it would have been perfect for my brother. The staff who accommodated us was a nice person. She was informative and gave me all the information I needed. She was very helpful. She showed me a one-bedroom apartment. It was a very nice facility.

White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community was good. It was great. It was a lovely place, and I thought my mom would have liked it there. The rooms were good. Maintenance and upkeep were good. The person who gave me the tour did a really good job. She answered all the questions and she showed me everything that I wanted to see. We didn't eat anything, but she showed me the dining area, and it was nice. The staff and everybody there were really nice, and they would be looking in on my mom, and making sure she had her daily needs and things like that.

My father-in-law is a resident of White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. The rooms are OK and are kept very clean. He just always complains about the food; he doesn't get full, I know that. The room is fairly good-sized. It's just not pleasant when you walk in. The one that works at the desk comes across as grumpy. My father-in-law doesn't do anything nice up there. They were just watching or sitting around watching TV. I haven't seen anybody do anything. Overall, it's not very good. He's not getting the proper care he needs. I don't think they're taking care of him at all. He can't get up and walk to the bathroom, so I had to tell them. He sat for three hours today before we finally got somebody in there, and that was after I went twice to find out where they were.

We toured White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community. We went and saw two different rooms. One room I thought was good, it was nice, the second room I did not care for at all. Two doors led to the room. There was a door in the bedroom and there was a door in the living room. That's weird. The building was fine. The grounds were nice. It was in a kind of a business sort of area where the building was located, but they did have a green space, they did have trees, and things haven't started to bloom yet. There are different kinds of areas where people could be sitting and enjoying some of nature, which is important. Each apartment did look out to nature. So that's a definite positive. The staff was very friendly, very nice, and very accommodating. She was very thorough, answered our questions. She did a very nice job. We did see the dining area. It was just typical of most assisted living, memory care facilities, a bunch of tables and chairs sitting around, people looking at people. I saw the activities director talking to two or three ladies. Everything looked like it had been kept clean, and there was no grime, or it didn't look like it needed to be painted. Everything looked like it had been cared for. It was adequate. It wasn't my cup of tea, but it was OK.

White Oaks at The Groves Senior Living Community was fine and we liked it very much. It's just that the location of the neighborhood wasn't ideal. It wasn't close to amenities and it wasn't the safest neighborhood. The upkeep was good and they were all very nice. We toured their independent living and the person who assisted us was very helpful, answered all of our questions, and was very personable. We saw a pool and shuffleboard but that wasn't something we were interested in.

They have exercise and games. They have a swimming pool, puzzles, and a movie theater.

It seems to be well-maintained, has friendly staff, has a variety of levels of care with add-on services. They have a pool, a wood-working shop, game rooms, TV rooms, theater, and balconies on many of the independent living units. It was a nice facility. I've only met one staff so far and she's 5 out of 5.

I am quite upset at the lack of MAIL Service! Mail is not being delivered to the Residents. The shippers state they have delivered it to the "office"...BUT the packages, tho delivered to the Office are NOT DELIVERED to the RESIDENT! My understanding from my cousin is that they are supposed to have someone who delivers it!??? Additionally, lots of her belongings are missing...someone is stealing her stuff! Including clothing, snacks and other items. Apparently the laundry is also ruining her stuff!

My mother has been a patient at The Groves for over 4 years now. Recently she was attacked by a male patient in the "lock down" unit on the 2nd floor of the Rosewood Long-term Care building. I have requested that the man who attacked her be moved elsewhere at The Groves, and out of the unit where my Mom is trying to live out the rest of her life. The Groves has not moved this man. He is still occupying a room just down the hall from my mother. Although I believe the nursing staff on the floor are genuinely fond of my mother, the administrators have told me they have to "consider what is best for the other person as well as what is best for my mother." If I had POA, I would move my mother from this ungodly situation. The administrators do not care about the patients.

It is a new and very nice facility. It's a campus so people of the same health issues are in one building and people of a different health issue are in another building. The prices were pretty high. The grounds are very well-groomed and had plenty of parking and handicap spaces.

We have our relative at The Groves. After our initial tour, we are satisfied with the accommodations, and we made arrangements for her to become a resident there. They offer several activities. They have game rooms and a commune type TV room where they show movies. They have bingo and jigsaw puzzles. They have occasional outings. She gets 3 meals a day -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have transportation for doctor’s appointments or whatever appointments you may have. They provide daily cleaning of the room and once a week laundry service for the residents.

The Groves had full continuum of care. The grounds were large, campus-style, and the building that my parents would be in was all on one floor. If mother does have to go to memory care, the continuum of care was adjoining the assisted living, which would allow my father to visit my mother without any interruption or trouble so that was nice.

The Groves has been taken over by Rosewood Health and Rehab. When we first moved my Mother into the Groves with Alzheimers, she was well cared for. She paid a portion of her care (about $56/day) and Medicare paid the rest.. . When Rosewood took over, care gradually began to diminish- still ok, but little by little, the staffing shrank. When she passed away 5 years and $95000.00 (of her portion) later, she did so 6 days into a new month. Her acct. was paid in full up until that point. For the last six days, she ate no food, and lay unresponsive in her bed, attended only by Hospice. Medicare paid her expenses for the six days, and I called and offered to pay the $56/day that she had been paying for 5 years. But suddenly that was not good enough. They sent me a bill for $850.00, because that is "just how we bill". Several phone calls and much frustration later, I accused them of double dipping, attempting to defraud medicare, and trying to profit over my Mothers death. They told me that unless I paid their bogus balance, they would hold all the paintings and pictures I had placed in her room, and not return them to me. The paintings were done by my late father whose hands were ate up with arthritis and painted with love, and are irreplaceable. I just wanted everyone to know what kind of place the Christian Groves has turned into. Beware! As I've incurred unforseen expenses with her burial, I cannot afford to give them 850.00, so I guess I will never get my property back.

My in-laws were happy living at The Groves. The staff were all very pleasant. I’ve stayed there several times. They had a 2-bedroom apartment with a balcony that’s glassed in. They had a storage room and laundering facilities in the basement that they can use free of charge. They had a dining hall across the street, which they access through a tunnel, so they didn’t have to go out in the weather. They had a library and a place where they could use the computer. The food was quite good. They tried to give well-balanced meals, and they had a choice of what they wanted to eat. They had exercise classes, crafts to do, a swimming pool, bingo and card games, a movie once a week, and they hold church services in the building. They had a van to take them to doctor’s appointments and to the grocery once a week. Once every two weeks, they would take them to Walmart. They would take anybody who wanted to go out to dinner, but they’d have to pay extra. They also have housekeeping services once every two weeks. And once a year, they get their carpet shampooed. It’s an older building, so it’s not as beautiful as some of the newer ones, but they had everything they wanted.

The visit at The Groves was OK. It was a little bit sad because the people there have bodies that may be giving way, but they still know a lot of stuff. The staff does a lot better than the one I used to work at. The workers there used to abuse the patients. They don't do that here at the Groves. They like to read and have games and stuff like that. They also like to talk. I didn't eat there because I don't live too far. The place is really clean, and it is pretty nice.

If you can find another place for your loved one do so. The only reason I give it two stars was because its better then most in the area. My mom who has MS is there and has many UITS and has been in ICU due to them not caring for urinary catheter. As of Nov of 2014 they had Roaches . The place may look clean and the stuff may come off as nice but do not trust it. Since I'm there most of the time I'm able to see what they are really like.

We took my dad for a long term care at The Groves, because my mom doesn't want anyone coming to their home. He was well take care of and I was very pleased. The rooms were well kept. But the only problem is that he doesn't have access to going outside because it is a high rise building. He doesn't have any problem with the food but the place has minimal activities for him.
